I have the problem of having a very crafty mama. Well, it's not a problem in general, it's awesome because she's taught me lots of awesome crafty things throughout my life. But when her birthday and Mother's Day roll around it's a challenge, 'cause anything I make her is slightly less impressive since she can make just about anything.

Today I decided to use my new skill, couching, which I learned about on PBS recently  Tongue, to make her an accoutrement for her other favorite thing in life besides crafting, which is wine. It just fancies up the bottle a bit. My explanation for its usefulness is that when she is having guests over but doesn't wanna splurge, she can get a bottle of Tisdale, slip the cozy over the label, and tell people it's a fancy expensive wine. (The wine I bought her is not Tisdale, by the way, it's something slightly fancier  Tongue)

I am going to have to use my technique for thorns again, which I did freehand on a regular zig zag machine. I like the way it turned out. Wish my pictures were better. I think my design would translate well to a pillow.

I haven't heard of couching before, but I like the technique.  Your stitches are so nice and even.  I like the material you used too.

It's wonderful. I'll have to keep this idea in mind for my own Mom!  she loves her wine, and when I make her things. Wink
