This is a sculpture I've been working on literally for years and have finally completed molding, casting and painting.

Doctor Alfred Prunesquallor of Gormenghast:

The reason it took me so long is that I have a hard time giving myself permission to be creative just for myself, with no practical purpose (like, say, clothing or paying work).  I hope the Nerd-along will give me more opportunities to feel it's ok to make stuff for myself, even something as terrifically nerdy as this sculpture. Smiley I am probably the world's biggest fan of this character, who was invented by dark fantasist Mervyn Peake.

I'm not sure who he is, but he's fantastic.  So many little details that make him look 'real'   And I give you permission to make what ever you want for yourself.  Wink  Sometimes a little outside push in that direction helps. Cheesy

Oh this is fantastic!

So many fragile tiny parts--his nose and fingers and the end of his coat...wow

His hair is also pretty great...

Ludi--crafting for yourself proved to be a wonderful thing...it does showcase a marvelous talent you have!

Oh thank you so much.  Smiley  I'm thrilled I was finally able to get this done, with much help from my husband, who did a lot of the molding of the original clay sculpture, and helped cast up the little parts.  I had to cut up the original sculpture into several parts for molding, which was scary, and then each part was cast separately and reassembled.  My husband made the little spectacles, also.  Now that we're using digital printing future sculptures should become finished pieces much more simply and quickly, because they won't need to be molded and cast, just scanned and sent out to the printer.
