I just finished renovating the guest room of my house. For such a very small room (7.5' x 11'), it was quite a lot of work. But it turned out pretty well. I was able to furnish it quite completely and without it feeling crowded. I used a lot of found and secondhand items to furnish it. You can look at a full photo set of and commentary on the renos here:

http://modwardian.blogspot.ca/2014/01/swans-end-guest-room-before-and-after.html

If you don't care to click through to my blog to read the whole renovation story, here are a few pictures:

This is the chest of drawers above before I set to work on it.

The vanity table and chair I rescued from a neighbour's trash.

The vanity table and chair after I did it over. Turned out it was made in 1915 - there were date stamps on the back of the mirrors.

This is the guest room as it was when I bought the house.

A shot of the finished room as a whole - or as much of it as I could get in one shot. You can't really get a good shot of such a small room.

You might want to check out some of my my other renovations posts. I am gradually doing over my whole house, and have posted to Craftster before about some of the other finished areas:

The chest is gorgeous!  I have enjoyed following all your posts...you have such wonderful vision for your home...and doing the work yourself is commendable!

The room is cozy and comfortable...I would love to stay there! Grin

You did such an incredible job on the furniture. It does not even look like the same pieces. Definately had to be a labor of love.  Smiley

I LOVE the dresser! Was it white, and you sanded it to reveal wood?

Yes, the chest of drawers was painted white, and I stripped the paint off, sanded it down, stained and varnished it, and then decoupaged the poster on the drawer fronts.

It's such a beautiful room now! The shelf of books and the swan bookends were a nice touch. And I'm in love with the dresser. May I ask where you found that poster? Shop or online, and did it have an identifying name? Although browsing poster sites is probably a bad idea for me, given my limited amount of wall space and my wanting all of them. ^^  You put so much work into refinishing things, and it shows.

Hi bookstorebabe, the poster is a reproduction of the 1902 painting, "Apple Tree with Red Fruit", by Paul Ranson. I am pretty sure I bought it from AllPosters, but a lot of online poster shops will have it. Here's the AllPoster link:
