Research Project Submission

Project Name: Uthando Project dolls
Team/Geekdom:  Commercial Free All-Stars
Project Geekdom (if any):  sewing, dolls/toys
Bonus Points: Discovery, Giver, Nerdy
Brief Description: I finished up my three research project dolls.  (I plan to do a few more dolls before I ship them this Fall/Winter, so Im waiting to post a separate thread until then.)  Each doll has undies with an elastic thread waist, a green glittery ball gown, a sparkly pink halter dress, a stretchy ruffle dress, a cotton fabric dress with elastic straps, a skirt with elastic waist, a halter top or one-shoulder shirt, a beaded necklace/belt, a purse, and a draw string bag to hold the doll and all their goodies.  I just made up the clothes as I went along, and I learned a lot about sewing with my machine in the process!  It was also my first time using fold-over and ruffle elasticand wow, it is seriously one of my new favorite things!  I also tried out a new technique for attaching the hair on these dolls.  Im not sure if Ill use it again or not.  I also don't know why the second one's face looks so weird in the photo below...she's cute in real life. Tongue

Research Project Proposal

Project Name:  Days for Girls liners

Team/Ninja:  Commercial Free All-Stars

Brief Description:  After plaidpineapple posted her research project earlier in the games, I investigated the Days for Girls organization and knew that I needed to participate. I finally think my sewing skills and comfort with my machine have improved enough to try sewing up some liners.  Im not sure if Ill actually get them done by the end of the Games, but I figured I might as well try.  Grin

Materials:  flannel, thread, sewing machine
Timeline:  3 weeks...by the end of the Games, maybe?
Week 1:  I will work in stages, so the first week will probably mostly be measuring and cutting fabric.
Week 2:  If necessary, finish cutting.  Start sewing.
Week 3:  Sew some more!  Pack up, mail, and post finished project.

I agree! It's amazing how the hair and clothes can transform the basic shape.

Challenge/Battle/Alert: Craftster 10th Anniversary challenge!
Team/Ninja:   Of Ships and Men
Project Geekdom (if any): Pacific Rim
Bonus Points: Nerdy
Project Name:   Kaiju Freezer Paper Stencil Dress
Project Page Link (if available): http://www.craftster.org/forum/index.php?topic=426569.msg5080340#msg5080340
Brief Description: I saw Pacific Rim and instantly fell in love! This has to be my fastest fall in love to craft fandom yet! The jaegercon on tumblr really helped pushed me to do it, too. I made these and the dress in two days! Alas, no dress pics, I just can't seem to photograph it right.
Project Picture:

Challenge/Battle/Alert: May Fandom
Team/Ninja:   Of Ships and Men
Project Geekdom (if any): Disney
Bonus Points: Nerdy
Project Name:   Purple and black quilt
Project Page Link (if available):
Brief Description: I started this quilt last summer, then put it away for the school year since I needed to hand quilt it. This summer, I just wanted it done! I looked around a bit online and found out about hand tieing a quilt. I chose to do that instead and had it done in a day or so! For the backing, I used an old bed sheet that is apparently official Disney merch. (It has the Disney copyright on it)

Challenge/Battle/Alert: June Randomizer
Team/Ninja:   Of Ships and Men
Project Geekdom (if any): Star Trek
Bonus Points: Super Nerdy Bonus
Project Name:   Comm Badge xstitch
Project Page Link (if available):
Brief Description: I have a friend who loves Star Trek, so for her birthday I decided to make her a little xstitch. I don't do much needlework, but even so this was really easy. I actually made this even easier by using only three colors instead of five like in the pattern. Despite how easy it was, I still managed to miscount the X's in a few places, but not enough to ruin it thank goodness. I still need to finish the back, but her birthday is not until December. Tongue

Research Project Proposal

Project Name:   Nerdy Lolita

Team/Ninja:  Of Ships and Men

Brief Description:  I've been wanting to get into lolita for a few years now, and I think my sewing skill and design skills are up for the challenge! I want to create three outfits, one a version of Kaylee's pink dress from Firefly, one based off of the TARDIS, and one on the anime Attack on Titan. I will make either a dress or a skirt, a hair accessory, a bag, and jewelry for each one. In addition, I'll make at least two petticoats, one bell shaped, one A-line.

Materials:  cotton fabric, elastic, zippers, sewing basics, tulle, organza, beads, wire, possibly more once I finalize each design.

Timeline: I'm not sure about this but since there will be Nerd Battles every month, I assume research proposals can carry on. Rather than weeks, I have parts.
Part 1: Design outfits and accessories, figure out ideal fabric choices and yardage.
Part 2: Muslin fittings
Part 3: Price check materials, buy.
Part 4: Sew!

To spread out the cost, after the muslins, I'm going to buy the materials and sew each outfit one at a time.

Challenge: Craftster 10th Anniversary Challenge
Team-Who-Must-Not-Be-Named
Project Geekdom: HP
Bonus Points: Super Nerdy, Giver (to be donated to Bundles of Joy)
Project Name & ENTRY Link: Team Spirit Hats
Brief Description:

What does Craftster mean to me? Inspiration

Every day I'm on Craftster, I am inspired by the projects and community.  I tried to think how I could encompass all the things that inspire me into a project, and I came up with Quidditch Team Spirit Baby Hats.  I thought these hats captured many of my Craftster inspirations.  They are:

1. Team Spirit to represent the fantastic community here on Craftster.  I find this most of all in the Craftster Craftalongs, in particular the Harry Potter Craftalong and Summer Nerd Games.  I love how everyone gets together and shares their nerdy loves and crafty awesomeness.  I don't think I would craft nearly as much as I do without these craftalongs and all the wonderful participants who make them great.  Kiss Thank you to all my craftalong peeps! You inspire me everyday!

2. Quidditch as a special shout out to all the Harry Potter Crafters on Craftster.  From HP projects to HP swaps, I am inspired to embrace my love of HP and crafting and get out there and have fun!

3. Baby Hats to represent how Craftster inspires me to craft for good.  Craftster connects me with so many opportunities and people that inspire me to keep up my charity crafting throughout the year.  ((HUGS)) for all those who donate their art to charity; you guys are awesome!

4. And lastly, you will notice my hats are crochet.  I think that sometimes crocheters don't think they rock as much as they do, or maybe that's just me.  But I will tell you that the Craftster Crocheters and their projects inspire me to be a proud hooker, and they make me want to grab my hook and crochet all the things!  Craftster Crocheters, You ROCK! Cool

Alrighty, now time for pics...here they are, my Quidditch Team Spirit Baby Hats
