Challenge: July Fandom
Team/Ninja:Team who must not be named
Project Geekdom (if any): Harry Potter
Bonus Points: Super Nerdy
Project Name: Hogwarts Sorry Game
Brief Description: I turned an ordinary Sorry game into a Hogwarts version.
Project Picture:

The colors of the original sorry game just happen to be the same colors as the four houses--so I kept the layout pretty much the same.  You have to get all 4 of your students into their common room first to win.  I wanted it to have that old marauder's map look so I used darker colors and shaded with brown.  The board is supposed to be the inside of Hogwarts castle.  There is a portrait guarding the entrance to each house so only students who belong can get through to the safety zone.  The starting point is a set of castle doors.  Each house ghost is floating around and is labeled Marauder's map style.  I also drew all the lines using repeated words just like on the marauder's map.  The colored "slides" from the game are painted to look like the moving staircases so it is like a shortcut through the castle.

(Gryffindor)

(Hufflepuff)

(Slytherin)

(Ravenclaw)

The students are made out of wooden spools and wooden beads for heads.  The girls have buns and ponytails made of clay (so cute!).  They are all painted wearing their school uniforms and robes.
My family always liked playing sorry and now it will be even more fun!

Research Project Submission

Project Name: A Very Sunny X-Stitch
Team/Geekdom: Commercial Free All-Stars
Project Geekdom (if any): TV!
Bonus Points: Discovery, Nerdy + Super Nerdy
Project Page Link (if available):  http://www.craftster.org/forum/index.php?topic=425793.0
Brief Description: Just finsihed washing and ironing this about an hour ago!  I think it took at least 35-40 hours of stitching, and probably about 10 hours of planning and working on the pattern.  The images might only make sense to my fellow Sunny fans, but everything is a direct reference to parts of the show.  It was my first xstitch pattern in PCStitch Pro, my first time using colored aida cloth, and (though maybe I shouldn't admit) my first time using the proper x-stitch needles.  I couldn't get a decent shot of it in the frame, but it's just standard black so you're not really missing anything.  Cheesy

Research Project Proposal

Project Name:  Uthando Project dolls

Team/Ninja: Commercial Free All-Stars

Brief Description:   I will complete 2 dolls for the Uthando Project charity.  That includes making the dolls, at least 2-3 outfits and accessories for each, and a drawstring bag to hold the dolls and all of their goodies.  I've made a few in the past, so I think completing two in the three week period is ambitious but doable.  In the unlikely chance I finish early, I will just start another doll.  I have a few others in the works already which are not a part of this project.  This will be a challenge because I will be learning how to sew doll cloths for the first time (I previously knitted all of the outfits), and will also investigate and learn a different/better way to attach their hair.

Materials:  Many fabrics and yarn, thread, embroidery floss, beads, buttonsetc.

Timeline:  3 weeksby August 12.
Week 1:  Cut doll bodies from pattern, sew and stuff.  Add faces and attach hair.  Maybe start knitting and sewing outfits.
Week 2:  Work on outfits and accessories.
Week 3:  Complete outfits and accessories.  Make draw string bags.  Take photos and post!

Roke45 - that rug is amazing!  Holy cow...congratulatio ns on finishing it!  What a triumph!  The pillow cases are really beautiful, too!

Smeddley - your hoop turned out great!  The little carrot juice drop is so funny, and the perfect little bit of color.  I also love your pinhole camera!  Aren't they so much fun?!  I've made a few in the past and they produced some of my favorite photos.

pinkleo - wow, your afghan is stunning!  I really love the border and the nice bright colors you chose.  That is also a great proverb and the granny squares are super pretty!  And it's so cool that you dyed with cherries...I should keep that in mind!

ysmeine - your dispensers are cool!  I remember those Little House scenes...even though it's been years and years since I've read those books.  I also think it's awesome that you pickled the radish seed pods.  I'm learning so much during this craftalong!

felicitybaby - that Sorry game is so amazing!  What a lot of work, but it really paid off well!  Just awesome!

Project Geekdom (if any): garden theme
Bonus Points: snb
Project Name:Grow head phones
Project Page Link (if available):
Brief Description:Proverb- "Children should be seen and not heard." I wanted to do this project so I could get my headphones back. I found this set on clearance and I really liked the wood finish, I had considered trying to do a steampunk look. While talking to the boy, it was his birthday when I picked them up, I suggested leaves and he agreed. I crocheted over the cord and added a few small leaves, I thought more would tangle easily.

Project Picture:

I decided it needed a little more, so I painted grow on both sides.
