Project Geekdom (if any): N/A
Bonus Points: None, I think.
Project Name: Mug Rug
Project Page Link (if available): http://www.craftster.org/forum/index.php?topic=424498.0
Brief Description: I made my 1st mug rug (well, now it's StickerChic's mug rug.) I used part of an old, stiff sheet for the backing so it's sturdy. All the fabric, binding and piping came from my stash. I have a very large stash.  Roll Eyes

Thanks folks!

Ludi, wasn't that Grandma so adorable sounding?  I especially love how she chuckles at the end after reading the story.  Makes me feel all warm and fuzzy.

Anyway, I was browsing the thread again and I'm realizing that I missed a bunch of pages here and there.  I'm not sure how that happened as I've been trying to check every day or two, & I thought I was picking up wherever I left off the last time.  Some of the comments clued me in to the fact that I hadn't seen all the projects.  I will have to do an image only search from time to time, because this thread is EPIC!

Challenge/Battle/Alert: May Fandom: Worth the Wait
Team/Ninja: Team Monster
Project Geekdom (if any): Insects
Bonus Points: Discovery, Nerdy
Project Name: Decoupage Birdhouse
Project Page Link (if available):
Brief Description: My eldest son made this little birdhouse with my Dad at a Home Depot demo class for children about 6 or 7 yrs ago.  It was originally just raw wood.  I had been hoping that he would paint it himself one day, but I got tired of waiting and it was starting to warp and rust and such, so I figured it was time to take matters into my own hands.  I decided to decoupage book pages and some butterfly stickers onto it and paint the edges a teal green.  Then I gave it a light brown wash to make it look slight more aged.  I have been obsessed with insects and other small invertebrates since my uncle took me to my very first Bug Fair when I was about 10 years old.  Now, I have an extensive collection of bug related decor, including some mounted specimens, and I recently acquired a pair of millipedes at the 27th annual Insect Fair.  I've been going to the fair since the 3rd annual one.  I also have a pair of golden mystery water snails that I love to death.  We're talking serious nerdyverse here.  Anyway, it's my first decoupage project & I actually had to buy Modge Podge as I did not have any.

Project Picture:
Here it is back in September, all primed and ready.  Just ignore the other items in the shot.

Not sure why it took me so long to finish it.  I think I was just indecisive about how to do it.

Pottermouth - your yarn looks great! Love the variation in colors.
calabaza - I like the way you peiced the fabrics together on the colored side. Gray is my favorire color so I particularly love this rug.
La Chapa - You are on a roll! Whoo Hoo! Look at you go! What a pretty birdhouse! Are you going to leave it outside? I would put it on my wall inside. It's too cute to go to the birds!

Thanks for cluing me into MAQ StickerChic87. I was trying all sorts of word combo's and coming up blank! LOL! Yours is amazing!
I finished a piece this weekend but wanted to tweak it some before posting. Then I finished another yesterday but it's for a swap so I have to wait until I ship and they get it. Oh, the wait for badges is killing me!!!   Cool

pottermouth--thank you so much for the crockpot dyeing tutorial...I am now fascinated with dyeing my own yarn...I love your tonal skein above...do the dyes hold up well over time?  I have used natural dyes (hibiscus flowers, onions, tree bark, mushrooms, etc.)...the colors are subtle and more natural colored but over time, they fade to almost white again...I was very disappointed that my hibiscus dyed papers now look so washed out... Sad

love the mug rug...very cute...I love seeing patchwork in mini sewing projects!  Nice job!

I like Kit-Kat, unless I'm with 4 or more people.

AIMR, go for it! As far as the longevity of the colour when you use icing gels, I couldn't tell you. This was a first, but if you have ever gotten that stuff on your fingers you know it never comes off! My fingers are still Smurfy blue. In the past, I've dyed with natural egg dye (tablet form) and the colours are still true and the same goes for the Kool-Aid yarn. Of course, none of them are red...

La Chapa, love the birdhouse! And the wee elephant!

Calabaza, that's your FIRST mug rug?! Amazing!
