Challenge/Battle/Alert: May Mulitimedia (I choose Blue!)
Team/Ninja: Team Monster!
Project Geekdom (if any): monsters
Bonus Points: super nerdy bonus, discovery
Project Name: Monster Heart Brooch
Project Page Link (if available):
Brief Description: I'm back with another poly clay creation!  I originally thought about making this as a felt badge, but I've been having such fun working with poly clay that I just couldn't stay away.  I made this heart from three different shades of blue.  I found these little pin/brooch backs at the craft store and was instantly struck with inspiration.  It was my first time making a brooch.  I was originally planning to push it into the clay, the way I've been doing with the eye pins to make charms, but that technique was misshaping it.  I ended up adding a layer of clay over the back of the pin and blending it into the back of the heart.  I wanted to cover the whole back side of the heart with the same shade of blue so that it would look neatly finished, but my 3-yr-old was doing the "momma, momma, momma, momma" thing, and had been for about 10 minutes, so I decided that it was good enough & that nobody was really going to see the back anyway.  Then I realized I should probably post a pic of the backside since I'm claiming the discovery points. doh! palm smacks the forehead!
Anyway, here it is pinned to my jacket.  I'm probably going to use it on my purse though.  Smiley

Project Picture:  The second one better represents the actual colors.  My flash kept washing out the colors in the first one.

Project Name: Dress Recreation
Team/Ninja: Team Dystopia
Brief Description: I have a picture of my grandma when she was about my age, and received a few comments about how it looks like me. I'd like to make a similar dress and recreate the picture. I've never sewn an article of clothing before, so it will definitely need some research. I need to buy one or more patterns, fabric, thread, etc. I'll throw out a completion of date of July 1, but I'm pretty sure it will take longer than that as I'll be away for vacation for a week this month, and again, Ive never sewn clothing before. Wish me luck! Smiley

(Trying to think of an amazing explanation of fitting this into my geekdom, but nothing so far. Any ideas? Wink)

Challenge/Battle/Alert: May Fandom
Team/Ninja: Of Ships and Men
Project Geekdom (if any): Thor Norse/Viking God!
Bonus Points: Super Nerdy Bonus
Project Name: Thor's Rainbow Bridge Afghan!
Project Page Link (if available): n/a
Brief Description: I've been meaning to finish up this blanket for my daughter FOREVER! It's going to get warm soon and when it does an afghan is the LAST thing I want to craft.
The sad thing is, I just had a scant few rows to finish and then the trim.
Here comes the Summer Nerd games to save the day and motivate me!!!
Watching the movie Thor, the daughter became obsessed with the Rainbow Bridge (aka Bifrost). I explained to her how it was in Norse mythology that after they died, Viking Ship Warriors traveled the bridge to Asgard. (I try to sneak in the mythology as much as I can  Wink)
I thought a ripple crochet afghan would come in handy.

Project Picture:

FINISHED!

Here's where I was as of last week: The teal blue row on the left side of the picture above.

If for anything thing else a HUGE THANKS to pinkleo and the Summer Nerd Games for giving me the kick I needed to check this off my WIP list!!!

Challenge/Battle/Alert: May Multimedia: BLUE
Team/Ninja: Of Ships and Men
Project Geekdom (if any): Star Trek
Bonus Points: Super Nerdy Bonus
Project Name: LLAP Asthma Inhaler!
Project Page Link (if available): n/a

Brief Description:
The son has developed a bit of "cold weather/exercise induced bronchial spasm" (they don't like to use the "asthma" word on kids under 6 years of age). Sheesh.
How, other than having him watch The Goonies, do I make inhalers cool?
I present the LLAP (Live Long and Prosper) Asthma Inhaler!

Project Picture:

May, with every strained breath, he Live Long and Prosper!
