Thank you for all the sweet comments!

Beautiful!  Looks like there's the animals have some etched dimensionality -- yes?  You mentioned you were doing sgraffito on the cup that showed up in the LV swap thread....  And on the assumption that you're using doilies for the rest of the design, how do you do the stenciling without either leaving an impression of the doily or smearing the black glaze?

Yes, the animals are sgraffito. That's where you paint either a colored slip or underglaze on unfired clay and scratch through it. Sort of like scratchboard.

For these, I used paper doilies and cut out the inside circle. Using them as a stencil, I painted black underglaze over the mug and once it was dry, I went back in and added the animals. Because the doilies are thin paper rather than something like crocheted cotton, they leave a very faint impression, so you don't see much texture. Smiley

These are lovely - and your backyard must be AMAZING!

Smiley The backyard is my very most favoritist thing about this house. We get tons of birds and squirrels year round. And right now the bunnies are everywhere. In fact, one of them decided to build her nest right in the middle of my backyard just yesterday. And that reminds me that I need to put some fencing around my garden this weekend. Roll Eyes

Those are lovely.  I love the shape and the design.  I think the bunny and the last bird are my favourites.

They are all magnificent, but since you asked about a favorite, I'd have to say the bunny, followed closely by the robin.

When I saw the thumbnail, it almost looked as though there was a hole in the cup, with an animal inside.  These are very neat!  I can't pic a favourite!
