Romper bags have been quite popular here for quite a while now and many people have recommended them to me, also my midwife. Since the pattern is quite simple, they're easy and quick to make. Basically all you need to do is to attach a waistband to a bag.

I used terrycloth for the inner bag, cotton for the outer bag and cotton jersey knit for the waistband.

UPDATE:
Here's a picture of our little preemie girl:

She sleeps so so well in the romper bag!

As far as I know you can use the romper bags night and day. Usually the baby only wears a onesie and the romper bag. It is supposed to give the baby room to kick and at the same to feel the naked legs and feet like in the womb whilst it keeps them warm. Also people say it's more comfortable for diapering at night.
Well, to be honest I haven't really thought about the difference between the romper bag and a sleep sack. Probably I'll find out when the little girl has finally arrived.
