I would love to make this for my 2 1/2 year old grandson, but the pattern is only up to size 6 months.  Is it possible to resize such a pattern?  If not, could anyone recommend a similar (preferably free!) pattern suitable for a 2-3 year old, the simpler the better.  I'm a basic knitter and would not attempt anything complicated!  I hope there's an expert out there who could help me out here.  Thanks very much.

Sure, you can make it larger, just use measurements. Here's a chart with actual body measurements for children - http://www.craftyarncouncil.com/childsize.html - you probably want to do a size 4. Add 2" to the chest measurement, which will be the number of rows. The number of stitches CO at the body will determine the length, and you need the sleeve circumference for the cast on at the wrist. If you can measure something he wears that's not small for him, just use those measurements for sizing. Sleeves knit a little longer and rolled up, and length a bit longer mean he may be able to wear it for 2 years, so larger isn't always bad. Once they reach the toddler sizes, kids grow taller faster than wider.

Thanks so much Sue.  I'm definitely going to try it now that you've given me a confidence boost!

It sure is possible to knit this pattern in other sizes. I made one for a four year old a few years ago.

I made mine with a collar rather than the hood which turned out pretty well. But the hood wouldn't be too hard to include.

I will walk you through it tomorrow when it is less 12am in the morning.
