i am terrible at modifying or improvising patterns, so I'm hoping someone can help me with a probably elementary question.

i want to knit a blanket (the big bad baby blanket from stitch and bitch if it matters) but i think i want to make it smaller.  if i just halved the pattern, would that work? so if it said to co 160, i would co 80? if that wont work, any suggestions?

if anyone has made this blanket or seen if made, do you think it will look OK at half size? I'm hoping if it's smaller it can be a lovey for my son.

thank you!

I'm looking at the pattern right now.
It should look fine halved, and you can just cast on half the sts, but you will need to adapt the rest of the pattern too.  You will want a narrower boarder (so maybe instead of repeating 5 times maybe repeat 3) (do that the same on beginning and end) and then divide the remaining number of sts in half, k the first half and purl the second.  (continue with your numbers for the rest of the pattern).

Does that make sense?
