Hi all,

I'm going to a safari themed party and looking to make my own zebra costume. I want to tie dye a white tshirt and white leggings using black dye to get a striped effect similar to this:

or this (but with more thinner stripes):

Does anyone know how to go about doing this? e.g. where to put the rubber bands and where to fold? Have never tie dyed before so an idiots guide would be helpful  Tongue

Thanks Smiley

There's a shibori technique called "tree bark" that might give you the results you're looking for. It allows you to create quite regular striping and even change the direction of the striping.

Google search for mokume shibori

You might want to make a few samples to test thread and stitch spacing. It's time consuming, but the results are beautiful. I can't believe I never posted my tree bark tank top...
