Being as how I was thinking of it tonight... and normally never think of it until mid October... I figure I better get a head start on discussing this one Smiley

For those who don't know: NaNoWriMo is National Novel Writing Month, which begins Nov. 1 and ends Nov. 30th. So I'm thinking the best timing would be to have signups the end of August, give the month of September for crafting, and mail out October 1st. That way, for those that use October for planning (and saying goodbye to all your friends and family), you will have no worries. Unless, of course, you're crafting away to get a head start on Christmas. Can't help with that, sorry. :|

There are so many ways we could go with this. Craft your inner editor (and send it away) or craft an inner editor for your partner (and send it with some sort of storage device so he/she/it can be locked up for November). Writing themed or inspired goodies. Tools. Snacks. "Writers Block" assistance devices. If your partner knows what he/she will be writing about, you could create things geared towards his/her novel. There are endless possibilities.

So: what would you guys like to see / participate in?

Ooh! This sounds like so much fun!
I was actually thinking of making a dammit doll of my "inner editor" for me to beat up during NaNoWriMo.

I would try VERY HARD to be able to get into this swap! O___O I won my first nanowrimo year but last year sadly only got about 8K done  Sad However, my inner editor is a persnickety bi*tch that won't leave me alone. Having something to shut her up with and then some added writing goodies might be a goooood thing  Cool

I got 50K done last year, but it was a far cry from a novel. It was "rant and rave and my life sucks and how DARE they do that to me" and otherwise... well, not sure it even counts at therapeutic, but it was writing. With words. And every now and then a bit of novelization happened, either by accident or due to signing up for a word war. This year... Well, I anticipate not being depressed, my world not falling apart, and not spending the month in tears. SO... novel writing will occur. Smiley And I'm actually going to try something new and PLAN AHEAD OF TIME. I normally fly by the seat of my pants.

I've "won" NaNo several times, but my absolute favorite I finished was a choose-your-own-adventure novel.  Putting it on-line probably took as long as writing it, what with all the links!  O.o

Coffee-themed crafts would be good, too!  Or fingerless mittens to keep the typing hands warm.  Or "next plot device dice"!  Or... or... or...

*ahem*

I mean, yeah, okay, might be kind of interesting...  ;P

This will be fun.
I plan on using October to plan for NaNo this year too. I usually fly by the seat of my pants and have yet to win. I never get 50K because I get stuck on what to write.

"Next Plot Device Dice"... I love it Cheesy

Would a 5-pt swap be acceptable to everybody? Or is that too much? I know I could go crazy making stuff lol. Or maybe do a "3" and ppl can do extras as they like with communication with their partner. I'm sure we could all come up with a dozen things (at least) to make NaNo life easier or more fun.

A 5-pt swap sounds good to me but it may be easier for some to do the 3-pt swap. Then others could do extras for their partners :3

I'd probably prefer 3-point, I don't always have the time (I admit, my "smalls" can take up to 5 hours to make, so...  my crafts just take forever!  You can't really make a "small" cross stitch!).  You can always ask in the questionnaire if people want to do more, and pair them up based on that, too.  I've been in swaps like that.

How did I miss this thread before? I was a first time 'winner' this past year and am still in the process of editing the piece of crap I wrote Cheesy

Smeddley, I hear you on the cross stitch - any embroidery with fill stitching is going to take forever yet I find it hard to consider a piece of embroidery or cross stitch a large, even when I have put 30 or more hours into it.

I'm super new around here, but I'm excited for NaNo this year. I'm in a good place to write finally.  :  )  I'd love to do this swap. These first thirty days are taking forever!

I'm still new here, so please tell me if I go wrong somewhere. I'm always up for some gentle correction.

My daughter is doing camp nanowrimo and she's writing like mad heading toward the finish. I didn't even start this time. I'm thinking this swap could really help build the enthusiasm up.

Just refreshing... I will post the questionnaire next week. Hope for Monday, but I need to update my resume before I do anything else. Though the swap questionnaire will surely be faster and more fun.

FreakieGeekie: That's okay Smiley There's always November. November is more fun anyways Wink Kick off parties, TGIO parties, all-night-write-a-thons, and... well, if you have to do any traveling: hook up with the local NaNo group where you're going. Meet the locals and write with them.

Everyone that knows me just shakes their head, "Yeah... she's weird" and leaves it at that lol. And my ex gets mad at me for word-count-padding and not "finishing" my novels. Not fleshing any of them out into a full, real novel fit for publishing. Sigh.

Well... he did say the things that irritate him about me are the same things he dislikes about himself... lack of follow through.

Yeahh I have a TON of really great and unique ideas but i get caught up in the "proper" way to do things. I have no idea about emotional arcs and plot holes and schtuff like that so when I re-read my writings months later I'm like "Gah...how boring. What drivel...." so on and so forth so I discourage myself even before I take the first step Tongue And of course, after working so diligently on ONE novel for four weeks by the end I want to throw it out the window  Cheesy So I getcha Eclectic.
  Isi= no follow-through gal too =/

But honestly my brain is like---numb right now when it comes to thinking about crafting for "writing." I burnt myself out a while ago. Haven't picked up a single crafty thing in months O_O (ikr? How COULD I?!  Shocked) I'd need to research some stuff to even put answers on the questionnaire for the new NaNo swap  Wink
