After my attempt to reupholster two fifties chairs, I found these two coffee tables / magazine holder and decided that they really needed an update, too.

I painted them white and turquoise and put some oilcloth on top. So it is washable and very durable. It was a very easy project that I've quite enjoyed - and I totally love the outcome.

So, let's start Cheesy

A closer look of the oilcloth:

This was the original. Yucks, right? Cheesy

I forgot to take a picture of the magazine holder before, but it looked just like the other one.

And one last one together with my new chairs.  Cheesy

Thanks for looking! I would love to hear what you think. Smiley

They are so fresh and modern! Nice job!

Was it originally tile or "fake" tile?  I was curious about the grout lines...

Your home will have a very clean and bright look once you are done...I have enjoyed following you and your projects, so thanks for sharing again!

Thanks so much! Since we're in the process of moving (just across the hall into an bigger apartment), there will be some more posts. I decided to put away as much as possible of the usual IKEA-stuff and make something unusual, so I'm pretty busy. The next project will be a really big tufted Chippendale Settee, but I haven't figured out yet if I should re-upholster it or give it a try with some paint. We'll see.

The tables had real tiles on them. I evened them up with some "grounding" (not quite sure, if it is called so in english) and painted them white, so you can't see the tiles anymore shining through. It worked great. Smiley

I figured you had to grout the tiles to make them smooth!!  Very nice job---and you also recycled furniture that would probably have been thrown away!  Excellent...

wow--your next project sounds very large!  Have fun!

Thanks, alwaysinmyroom! I love to recycle old furniture.

This is the settee in its original form:

(It's pretty awesome already, but doesn't fit in my color-palette) so I'm trying to figure out, what to do with it. Smiley

Love what you did with the coffee table.  I have a similar one I made, and I've been meaning to re-do the tiles and paint the wood.  Maybe I'll get around it after seeing your re-do.

I have a magazine table that belonged to my grandmother. It's so similar to yours. I've been meaning to redo it forever. Yours looks so good it may just have guilted me into getting started. Great job!

Thank you! I bought it on Dawanda ( http://de.dawanda.com/product/44646430-beschichtete-Baumwolle-BIRDCAGE-Voegel-NEON I hope it is ok to post a link, if not I can delete it) - it is quite pricey, but comes with 55 inch width, so half a meter was enough for both tables.
