This month, we're putting a pretty major (awesome!) twist on the Craft Challenge!  This month, you don't actually have to craft anything right now!  For this craft challenge, we want to encourage you to share a project that you've never posted a thread for previously.  The crafty kicker -- it has to be a project that you've sent in a Craftster Craft Swap.  Over time, so many amazing projects get buried in the Swap Galleries.  Let's expose them!! Smiley

Your project can be any medium, technique, size or shape you desire, as long as you sent it for an organized Craftster Craft Swap! Smiley  The project must not already have its own Completed Project thread.  It's totally okay if it was already shared within a Swap Gallery, though!

For this unique challenge, the requirements are bit more specific than usual, so be sure to read them very carefully:
  • Post your project on the entry board from (May 1 - 8, 2013) only.  Your project must be something you crafted and sent for an organized Craftster Craft Swap.  It cannot be something made for a personal swap or swap on another site.  It can be a project you sent as an angel package for a Craftster Craft Swap, though. Smiley
  • In your entry thread, share the title and link to the swap for which you crafted the project.  Feel free to give a little shout out to your partner in your thread, too! Smiley
  • Share at least one photo of your project, but more are always encouraged.  If you are entering your project with photos your recipient captured, please privately contact and ask for their permission to use their photos.

Additional Rules and Details:

  • On May 1 2013, there will be a special folder created for entries.  Post your entry on the specified entry board during the period of May 1 to May 8 11:59:59 PDT 2013.  No sooner.  No later.
  • Voting will happen from May 9 - May 16 2013.
  • The winner will be officially announced on the first business Monday of the next month -- in our June newsletter, on this thread and on the Craftster blog.  We will contact you via Private Message, after the announcement, to get your prize package information.
  • Enter only ONE project.  Your entry can have multiple components to it.
  • If cheating of any sort is discovered, the applicable entry and votes will be disqualified.

Originality:

It's probably impossible to know whether your project is 100% original, has never been posted on Craftster, or made by anyone else in the past.  But if your project was definitely inspired by something you've seen before, please give credit to that project. Smiley

Prizes:

At the end, we'll set up a poll right here and the first place winner (US or non-US) will get:

(1) their project in the Featured Projects area
(2) their project in the Craftster Blog
(3) and a prize from us at Craftster.org -- any one item from one of Craftster's online shops!

Oooh, this is PERFECT! So many of the things I've crafted lately have been for swaps, and I still haven't got around to posting them in their own threads. The real challenge will be deciding which *one* project to submit! Grin

Ugg, I know exactly what I want to post but can't find a picture of it anywhere.  My partner wasn't able to post in the original gallery so I posted for her but the picture was on my own website, which had very limited space, and I erased it.   Who knew 6 years later I'd want that picture!!

I do have another idea of what I could post but one of the 'rules' is causing me trouble and I need some clarification - It's probably impossible to know whether your project is 100% original, has never been posted on Craftster, or made by anyone else in the past.  But if your project was definitely inspired by something you've seen before, please give credit to that project  I crocheted something for my partner using a pattern I found through another Craftster member.  Can I post that project as long as I say who made the original pattern?

Gah, bummer!  Did you check the website Wayback Machine?  Sometimes we're able to revive photos from there.

Oh, yes!  Absolutely.  As long as you mention credit to that member, all is well!

Wow - that is so true!  I love to troll the swap galleries because there are so many awesome things crafted and posted there.  That was what inspired me to swap to begin with!  I know myself that I have crafted many things that I forget to post about in the boards.

What about if I have a blog post about it on my personal blog, but never posted it here - does that eliminate it?

I'm wondering if the Shop the Swap crafts are acceptable, since for the most part they are things that people do not specifically make to swap with a specific person (that being said there have been a number of "custom" crafts made in the STS).   Perhaps the crafted items that people have "sold" to another swapper could be eligible for the challenge?

hmm, would it be okay to contact a past partner and see if they could take better pictures of something I sent them ages ago? *gulp* what if they said "oh, sorry, I don't have that anymore. I gave it to the goodwill."

Cheesy  I had the exact same thought - I don't have a picture of the item I really want to enter but I can't bring myself to ask the person I sent it to for a picture!

I can't see a problem with asking them for a photo! There'd be no reason why you couldn't use that photo if you had their permission.

If there is any picture of the item at all on the net, you can copy the url and paste it into google images...if it exists anywhere, you might be able to find a decent picture!  It will even tell you where the picture was posted for you to ask for permission, if needed...I have found pictures that I deleted from my computer years ago...they are still "out there" Cheesy

That's a good question!

My question, is it bad the 2 items I have my entry narrowed down to are things I've made for the same person but happened to be for different swaps?

Per the first post:
  • Enter only ONE project.  Your entry can have multiple components to it.

I could be wrong, but my thought would be multiple pieces that make up one thing.  like a pair of earrings, a necklace, and a bracelet making up a jewelry set.  or a doll house with handmade furniture and dolls.

if I'm wrong, please correct me jungrrl.  but that's what it usually means in swaps.

Yep, she's right on!  Something that makes a natural or logical set is okay to enter.

Entering a mosaic rake and a snowman pin cushion would NOT be okay, for example. Cheesy

Per the first post:
  • Enter only ONE project.  Your entry can have multiple components to it.
Yes, I did see that, thank you.  My question is what constitutes "multiple components" in this case?

I could be wrong, but my thought would be multiple pieces that make up one thing.  like a pair of earrings, a necklace, and a bracelet making up a jewelry set.  or a doll house with handmade furniture and dolls.

if I'm wrong, please correct me jungrrl.  but that's what it usually means in swaps.

You are exactly right! Smiley Thanks K_K.

This is tempting....

Here's my question though, current swap, say I just mailed it out but my partner hasnt recieved yet, can I still enter it since its still shipped? (hypothetically here as I havent shipped yet XD incase she reads this dun want her getting excited haha)

It seems as though that would make it so you meet the requirements, so yes! You might be spoiling your partner's surprise though...

Can it be a craft sent in an angel package? I think I have settled upon a craft, but I sent it as an angel in a swap... is that okay?

Yes, we love angels!

The hardest thing about this challenge is finding something that I haven't already posted in its own thread! I did find one little thing, though, so I will have an entry.

The project must not already have its own Completed Project thread.  It's totally okay if it was already shared within a Swap Gallery, though!

Is a post in a craftalong considered its own thread?

Unless the whole craftalong is based on your item? Nope.   Wink

(A lot of us miss what's going on in craftalongs as well!)
