Hanging out in the woods

February saw my family have a wonderful little trip to the tip of Cornwall and spent many afternoons gathering sea glass and sea pottery....

Since then I have been experimenting with resin as a way of capturing the colours. I wanted to have something to hang in my garden and these just look stunning.

Those are wonderful! I'd love one in the garden too Smiley

You are lucky to find the glass and pottery. Here in the states the beaches are quickly picked clean.  I remember as a kid the amounts of glass, wish I'd picked it up then.

Awesome! These look really great, I especially love the one with the really little pieces at the top.

Do you mind me asking: Did you have to make the resin thicker to encase the glass, or is it the same thickness as the glass, if that makes sense?

Any advice on this now that you've been experimenting? I'm definitely going to try over the summer. It's going on my 50 projects list!!

Thanks for the compliments wonderful people xxx
Paper beau - I'm no expert at any if this at all - but basically, I wanted the thicker pieces of glass to be able to stick out, like it does on the beach.
Also - to be honest, resin is really expensive and I wanted to be able to make a few !

My dear friend (20 years old and a strapping you g man !!!) Lonja, helped me to make up a mold using silicone. My husband had bought home a load of waste PVC sheets and so we cut out the shape i wanted and set it in the silicone. It's at this point you want to make sure you get the exact shape you want.
After 3 days of setting - I had my mold.

So now personally, I love the rustic look - my pieces have tiny bubbles in them where there were air pockets under the original setting, and so when I lift out my resin pieces these tiny air bubbles get filled with resin - I like it because it reminds me of the sea.

Pointers would be - don't lift the pieces out too early, the resin may feel set but it is very vulnerable and can snap easily !!!
Secondly, don't handle it too much in the early days as its quite sticky and your finger prints will stay.
Thirdly - let me see yours when you've done em !!!
