We're in this long, painstaking process of redoing our upstairs bathroom ourselves. We're still no where NEAR done, and it's been a royal pain to say the very least, but I wanted to share this because it's the BEST best best part of the bathroom...if I do say so myself, baha!

I started reading through a blog called Sawdust and Embryos and saw a tutorial on there for painted backsplashes. I loved them right off the bat! I couldn't get them out of my head. Well, in the process of redoing things, we removed this terrible wainscoting from half of the wall in our bathroom, which looks like this:

It's very hard to actually tell how bad our bathroom was from this photo. We found mold under the floor, walls warping..it's been rough, and we've been doing it on a tight budget so we've had to make some sacrifices here and there.
Anyway. We get the wainscoting off and we're left with a blank wall. We painted it white and my husband mentions "It looks unfinished."  Shocked CLEARLY, he doesn't know me at all, because not 10 minutes after he said it, I was planning for a trip to the store.

I picked up some bottles of acrylic paint that I *hoped* would work together, some thin painters tape, and a sponge brush. And then I got home and started working.

At this point, my husband suggested throwing on a coat of poly over it and leaving it like it is. "IT LOOKS LIKE YOSHI'S BATHROOM!" Man, he almost had me with it, but I had to keep going. And then, 3 painful hours later...

WHEW. Took a lot, my back was on fire for a week (I have a bad back as it is), and I hate painting. But it was SO worth it.

Thanks for looking and letting me share!

That is GORGEOUS! I can't believe you achieved that effect with paint. Great job!

Thanks! It was a lot of work, and a lot of foul language being thrown around and swearing off painting for life, buuuut totally worth it. Somewhat debating on doing it in another room, but then I laugh at myself and the husband chews me out haha. It still needs a coat of polycrylic or two to be officially DONE done, but the best part is if/when we move from the house, it's neutral enough that we don't have to paint over all the hard work. Thank God, because I don't think I could ever just paint over it. It'd break my heart lol.

Exceptional!  Very creative, and your lines are perfectly done.  A lot of work, but well worth it.

Thanks everyone! The more I look at it, the more I forget how much of a pain it was and the more I want to do it again. I LOVE the interest it brings to the room. It's the first thing everyone notices when they walk in, despite the lime green walls lol.
