Yesterday was of course Mother's Day and Thursday (the 16th) is my birthday. So we had a combination Mother's Day/Birthday family lunch at my Mom's yesterday. Anana helped me celebrate.

Presents!

And cake!

As always, more/larger http://anana-visits-florida.blogspot.ca/2013/05/mothers-day-my-birthday-celebration.html

If you want to see A.D.'s tumblr blog, you just have to reverse the order of words in the url... I've discovered I don't much like that about tumblr, that when you're signed in you get a different address than the "outside" one.

Here's his address: http://littlevisitors.tumblr.com/

He has SO MANY PICTURES, it's awesome.  I feel so far behind with Violet Anne.

No up high pictures, as I do not do well with heights... the closest was the picture I took outside the ballet (no pictures during the ballet, which is understandable):

Or, bending the idea slightly, here's a picture with a plane!  We went to a Hanger Dance this weekend and the Commemorative Air Force had its planes on display - and I actually do know one of the pilots, if I wouldn't freak out I could probably get a ride in the bi-wing...  I'm dedicated to this swap, but not quite that much to overcome a phobia...

We all went to Johnson Space Center and had some fun.  I think Fretty is now setting his goals quite high.

The first guitar on Mars.
When we got home, he found this video ....The guitar is his hero now.

FIRE!!!!!

Yeah, no, seriously, there was a fire at work today. Just a little one, though. An outlet blew out and shut off ten of the library computers. An electrician was at a computer nearby and stomped out the fire, and we had Facilities come fix the outlet. Still... very exciting.

I snapped a photo of Clyde with the offending outlet before we left for the day:

There's a tiny scorch mark but otherwise fine and dandy, with a brand new cover!

Oh my goodness! That could have been really bad. Glad it turned out ok!

Franklin and I had an unexpected adventure last week.  Were we out on the town?

No, we were on the set of a TV show:

We were there for three very long (14-15 hours each) days, but with a very nice crew so that made it very pleasant, and got so many great pictures; pic heavy as this post is there are still plenty more for the blogthat I will one of these days start posting to.

Franklin got to see a lot of movie magic, such as watching a cliff-edge woods being created on a converted-from-a-warehouse soundstage; when special effects are added the green screen on the right will become a night-time city view from the cliff:

By the next morning that same spot had become a corner of a warehouse:

Between shots, a set can be a very active and crowded place -- here crew members are setting up lights and cameras and mini monitors, wrangling cables and giant white light-bouncing sheets of styrofoam, while actors rehearse a fight with the stunt coordinator:

This is a familiar setting weve seen many times before, the rooftop of a building

a movie rooftop, that is

...which, I have to tell you, even in person was disconcertingly realistic, even in the daylight when you can easily see that you're really only a foot or two higher than the parking lot.

Franklin got to meet Alex, a very special stunt double

And we were able to fulfill the weeks challenge, high places, which started with this, a crane of some kind...

that would eventually lift an actress high above the center of a "skylight" through which she will come crashing down into the room shown in the earlier picture:

On our last day Franklin hung out for a bit with Todd, one of the camera crew, as he loaded footage onto a computer:

And then Todd set Franklin up for the best shot of the day:

A-a-a-andAction!
