This Hoop features Pickwick, the dodo from the Thursday Next series of books. My friend and I meet while I was giving away 'clone your own dodo' craft kits at a fforde book signing, and so I thought it would be sweet to make a little Pickwick hoop for his birthday.

The bird is stem stitch on orange cotton, which is layered with yellow cotton and left with raw edges, then applied to grey linen. The writing is dark purple back stitch covered over with a lilac chain stitch - I like how it looks kinda sketchy and gives some interesting layers of texture

thanks for looking! I'd love any comments or advice for next time Smiley

Oh, I posted a tutorial online to make your own dodo from socks, and gave away some kits of stuff to make them with (socks, stuffing, buttons, printed off templates...). I work for the website that had arranged the signing and the kits were for our members, who are mostly readers not crafters Smiley it was fun though. The tutorial is here (it's free):

I think my friend who's getting the hoop is the only person to have actually made one besides myself
