STUFFING!!! Huh

So when it comes to stuffing your pincushion, what are you going to use??
I have only made a couple of pincushion before and they where the tiny bottle cap ones. So you don't really need much stuffing Wink I just used poly fill. But now that I been pinning and look up pincushions, I now see there are alot of options out there for stuffing  Shocked

steel wool
rice
coffee grounds
wool
toy filler beans
polyester fiberfill
crushed walnut hulls
sos pads
Nylon hose

So what are you planning on using? or what do you thinks works the best?
Thanks

I haven't been putting thought into the stuffing and I was just going to use poly-Fil. Now that I have options I don't know.  Maybe steel wool and poly mix...?

I've got a project on the go that I want to finish before i start work proper on this, which will take a couple of days or so... that's good, because it forces me to property plan Smiley I have a couple of ideas but no firm favourite to make yet

i was wondering, as this is my first pin cushion base, does anyone have any tips on making sure the pins don't come out though the base of the cushion. Obvs one option is to make it too fat for the pins to be able to reach all the way through... but are there other options, like... leather lining the base (inside whatever fabric you'd be using)? Or a cardboard/similar sheet inside the base maybe? What works or doesn't? Any comment on this from you pros?

I have used cardboard (from cereal boxes and the like) to good effect.  I made some wrist band cushions (they look like watches -- cute) and cardboard worked well as a base for those.

In the past I have filled pincushions with poly-fil, and then lined the bottom with flat marbles or mounted the pincushion on a terra cotta pot base. Recently, I started using wool as a simple pincushion in a teacup which is cute and practical, but not very fancy. I wouldn't use steel wool for my own pincushions because I put felting needles in the and I don't know if that would damage the barbs...

Greetings Everyone,

Seeing how this is my first pincushion. I was wondering about stuffing as well.

I do think i shall try a mixture the fine steel wool and cotton.  As to giving it weight I was thinking a long the lines of glass beads or pellets

well and wonderment

Holy moly! So many great questions that I hadn't even considered! Lol as for me, I've made 3 maybe 4 pincushions and I've only ever used polyfill! Now you have me thinking!
