I wanted to make some faux chocolate rabbits for the longest time. I didn't want to spend a ton of money on my first try to I found these little guys at the dollar store. They had a gloss shine on them so I was a bit worried about painting them, but they turned out great and now I want to make some more.

The finished product

The bunny painting process:

I had to use three coats of paint to get the texture and coverage I wanted. I mixed three different browns to get the "chocolate" effect.

I decided to leave the flowers the way they were to give the chocolate bunny/flower effect that you get when you buy them. The acrylic paint made it easy to clean up around the flowers. I thought about adding a layer of modge podge to seal the paint.

I am really happy with the way they turned out and I am thinking of adding to the wreath or to my mantle display.

These are adorable, Pam! You did a great job of getting in close around the flowers, I'm sure I'd make a mess of it  Tongue

I made some fake chocolate bunnies by pouring melted crayon wax into plastic chocolate molds. I stuck them in the freezer to harden them quickly.  They came out great and look like real chocolate. Just another idea if you already have candy molds.

That's a brilliant idea! I didn't even think of melting crayons. You could even do candle wax and make a candle.

If you had a brown candle, I imagine candle wax would work just as well actually. I just happened to have a lot of crayons Smiley

I used 2 parts Dark chocolate
1 part brown
1 1/2 parts burnt umber

They were out of milk chocolate so I tried the dark chocolate and used a little more burnt umber to get the exact color I wanted.

Thanks again everyone!
