Help me with my sewing machine dilemma.

I already own an older table top Singer (its the 150th anniversary/3820 model), its falling apart but still works and should have a few years left, its not fancy, but it gets the job done.

I can either keep it and buy a small serger/overlock in addition to it

OR

I can scrap or sell it for maaaaaaaaaaaybe $20-$30 and buy a new table top machine, most likely a nice used Jenome or a Brother.

What would you do?

I mostly sew clothing for my son and friends, and occasionally to sell.

Does your current machine fit your needs?  Do you find yourself frustrated with having to fiddle with it to make it do what you want?

If it fits your needs and works fine...then keep it and add a serger.  I love being able to quickly finish my raw edges and work with knits with my serger.

However, if you are frustrated with your machine, then it would be time to sell it and get you a new machine.

Maybe you could get the serger now and then in a few years when your sewing machine bites the dust, you can get the newer sewing machine.
