Kicking a** and taking names!

I found the CUTEST pattern for a puff stitch beret with bow detail on crochetme that I just had to have. After three failed attempts at the pattern, I finally had enough and created my own pattern based off of the aforementioned hat. This is a super easy pattern that works up in about 4 hours for experienced crocheters. Beginners could easily work this up over a weekend. Anyway, pics!

Here is the bow detail. I used a 100% bamboo yarn, so mine is already a bit stretched out. Acrylic yarn remedies this stretching. I have a feeling washing it will tighten it back up.

Close-up of the puff stitch pattern. It reminds me of the little buds all over the trees in my yard.

Aaaaand the obligatory "this is how it looks when you wear it" photo, as modeled by me.

Pattern! Woo!

Materials: about 270yds of worsted weight yarn (preferably something on the thinner side, with some sheen to really bring out the stitch detail) and a size F (4.0mm) crochet hook

This hat is made in the round and fits most adult women. The opening seems tiny, but it stretches to accommodate my 20" head, as well as fitting my tiny teen niece's head, so you should be good. The finished product is a floppy beret straight outta hipster weekly. <3

Stitch explanation:
Ps- puff stitch
To make a Ps, yo, pull up a loop, yo, pull up a loop, yo, pull up a loop, yo, pull through all loops on hook.
Pstog- puff stitch decrease
To decrease, yo, insert in next ch-sp, pull up a loop* 3 times, yo, insert into next ch-sp, pull up a loop* 3 times, yo, pull through all loops on hook.

Beret:

Round 1: Make a magic loop. Ps, ch1* repeat six times. (6 Ps, 6 ch-sp)
Round 2: sl st in first Ps; 2 Ps in ch-sp, ch1* repeat six times (12 Ps, 12 ch-sp)
Round 3: sl st in first Ps; Ps in ch-sp, ch1; 2 Ps in next ch-sp* repeat six times. (18 Ps, 18 ch-sp)

Round 12: sl st in first Ps; Ps, ch1 in next 10 ch-sp; 2 Ps in next ch-sp* repeat six times. (72 Ps, 72 ch-sp)
Rounds 13-15: sl st in first Ps; Ps, ch1 in each ch-sp around (72 Ps, 72 ch-sp)
Round 16: sl st in first Ps; Ps, ch1 in next 10 ch-sp; Pstog in next 2 ch-sp* repeat six times.
Round 17: sl st in first Ps; Ps, ch1 in next 9 ch-sp; Pstog in next 2 ch-sp* repeat six times.
Round 18: sl st in first Ps; Ps, ch1 in next 3 ch-sp; Pstog in next 2 ch-sp* repeat twelve times.
Round 19: sl st in first Ps; Ps, ch1 in next 2 ch-sp; Pstog in next 2 ch-sp* repeat twelve times.
Round 20: sl st in first Ps; hdc in each Ps and ch-sp around. (72 hdc)
Rounds 21-22: sl st in first hdc; sc in each hdc around. (72 sc)
Fasten off. (Whew!)

Bow (optional):

Bow body:
Ch 61, turn.
Rows 1-6: sc in next 60, turn.
Fasten off.
To assemble bow, fold in thirds, and "swing out" the ends like little wings. Use a scrap piece of yarn to tie the center tightly.

Bow center:
Ch 11, turn.
Rows 1-4: sc in next 10, turn.
Fasten off, weave in ends.
Sew ends of bow center together. Pull bow through bow center and sew together to secure. (This is a bad description, I realize. Make it look like a bow, lol.)

Finishing:
Sew bow onto beret on row 20 (the hdc row.) Sew down the loops of the bow to keep them from flopping about. Weave in all those nasty loose ends. Cheesy

Let me know if anyone tries out my pattern, and if I can clarify any of the instructions.

Happy hooking!
xoxo

So cute! I'm obsessed with making hats (even though I look terrible in them) so I'm definitely going to make this one!
