So when my fiances mother was in town they went thrift shopping and got me a jewelry box that had some horse stickers stuck on probably by the child who owned it. other than that it was very plain and just kind of old school looking.

it even had a cute little music box mechanism so i made sure to cover that when priming and painting.

SO I sanded it down and primed it with car filler primer actually which helped with nicks.

I painted over it in Aqua green Acrylic and Metallic Gold

added some stenciling on both sides.

cut some paper out and mod podged it to the glass

I stenciled some leaves on top as well

and the new bird stencil is finished~

I'm actually working on an earring and necklace holder to go above my dresser that I will be repainting and fixing as well.

I want to add another bird on a branch stencil to the top middle since the one on the original i used was way to small so when I can get one it will be finished so the top on has some sealant on the gold leaves. Luckily the mod podge dried and isn't sticky which I heard some people have trouble with.
I also want to recolor the inside fabric but its kind of a velvety fabric so i wouldn't know how or what. Must do research.

Materials:
one old wooden Jewelry Box
Sandpaper in 60 and 220 Grit
Acrylic Paint in Aqua Green and Metallic Gold
Rust-oleum Filler Primer (originally for cars but an be used on wood)
tree stencil
Paper to cover glass and horse stickers from Michaels
Matte Mod Podge for a sealant

thanks for looking! my next project will be finding another jewelry box and painting as the tardis for a friends birthday.

I have a jewelry box that looks really similar to yours in the beginning--I was going to throw it away and get a new one but now this girl is going to go buy some paint instead. Looks lovely!

You've got great stenciling skills. That's one beautiful jewelry box.

I have one of these old jewelery boxes too, I hate it, but never thought to paint it, great idea.
