i am finally getting to post my projects from sept 2011-the ongoing hoopla swap round 3!  it was my first ongoing swap, so I made it my goal to try a new technique for each hoop i did.  my fourth (and final) hoop was for amnesia who requested a "robot apolcalypse" scene.  for hers i decided to try felt applique, so it would have the feel of an old-timey move poster:

i had a "starry" fabric in my stash with blue/black and gold specks for stars which i used as the background.  i started with the silhouette of a city skyline, added the attacking robot behind, and an unfortunate victim in the front.  used stitching for the "laser beam" and other details on the robot body and a piece of scrap red fabric for the "zap" area.  pic before stitching:

i really enjoyed working with the felt, and i can totally see why people choose that medium!  great way to block out colors/shapes and then let the stitching do the details Smiley
