i am finally getting to post my projects from sept 2011-the ongoing hoopla swap round 3!  it was my first ongoing swap, so I made it my goal to try a new technique for each hoop i did.  my third hoop was for sarad who wanted a mockingjay from hunger games.  i LOVED the books, so I knew I had to give it a try.  i really wanted to play with the shading, so i decided to give crayon-tinting a try:

i crayon colored the image with a black background and yellow and brown tones for the body of the mockingjay and i was really pleased that it didn't have a "waxy" feel once i heat-set the colors.  i then added yellow stitching for the outline, with a little brown in the wing for additional shading.  i painted the hoop black as well to make the image stand out.  closer shot of the shading:

i would definitely do the crayon-tinting again, i was really pleased with how it allowed for color-blending and shading withing the body Smiley

Great job! I love the tinting. The gold/yellow really brings out the stitching.

I am so in love with those books. I covet this. So of course it will be pinned. All of your hoops are beautiful.

This is an amazing example of how crayon tinting can be used to make a beautiful hoop.
