Last year I went to our local RenFest for the first time. My son was only a month old, so I toted him around in his sling, and didn't have to worry about a costume. However, this year he'll be a little more mobile, so I need to come up with a costume for him!

I'd also like some tips for how to improve my own costume, but on a frugal mom's budget. Any tips are great, but remember that he is only 1, and won't take to a lot of frills like his big brother.

A simple loose shirt and pants with elastic or kilt would be great for a comfy kids costume, and if you are having trouble finding fabric try sheets from discount/thrift stores for soft cottons.

I like that idea-- for my step son and his friends I made "tunics" out of pillow cases with a fleur de lis painted on them, and rope belts for their swords. That would probably work out great for a toddler. And I think I'll try to turn his stroller into a dragon just for kicks.

I'm a little late, but this is what I did for my son when he was 5 months old, though it works for a 1 year old as well. It's just a super simple tunic made from felt.

Or here is my son when he was 1 and had a polo shirt and a kilt. Sorry it's from the back, but it's the best I have.

A lace up corset or vest would go great with your costume pieces.  Maybe a floral crown, too.
