For Embroidery Hoopla Round 9, my partner twisted5whispers had a request for a penny-farthing: an antique bicycle with the giant front wheel.  The theme of the swap was "not just thread", so I knew I wanted an embellishment for the wheels.  After searching every store I had in my area and coming up short, I finally found what I wanted on an out-of-state road trip:

The larger wheel is a silver bangle, meant for making your own jewelry.  The smaller wheel is a keychain hoop, I was really pleased with how the sizes worked.  I also wanted to try something different for the fabric, so I used a coffee-dye technique to get an "antique" feel on the white cotton.  Comparison of original fabric with a dyed piece:

I used "tardis blue" thread for the bike frame since my partner shared a love of dr. who, and i practiced some satin stitch on the handlebars and seat.  pic of stitching before silver hoops were added:

and a final shot of the finished project:

This was my first swap in a while, and it was a great one to get back into them Smiley  I am obsessed with hoopla and don't think I realized how much I had missed it this last year until I got started again!
