We did have snow last week, thisbird.  Those are cool season crops and it's time to plant them now.  It's also time to plant potatoes, I need to get on that!

I've never had or heard of kohlrabi. What is the flavor like? How to you prep it for cooking/eating?

It's described as a broccoli-apple.  The flesh is white under the purple peel.  I've served it thinly sliced in salads, as an ingredient in stir fries and also roasted.  The tops are really tasty sauted in bacon fat.  It's supposedly also good cooked and mashed but I've never tried it that way.  It's a cool season vegetable that should be available in local farmers markets next month.

I just want to say that, coming from someone who lives in an apartment building, I'm extremely jealous of your being able to grow your own food.  Plus that you're growing things that are a little more out of the ordinary like the lemons and kohlrabi AND have a green house.  Stellar!!

btw, how long have you had those lemons/how old are they?  I've always assumed that fruit only grew on larger, older trees but the ones in your pic seem quite tiny (no offense...haha)

No offense taken!  Our citrus is approx. 4 years old and seems to enjoy their tiny pots.  We do lots of container gardening during the regular growing season.  Do you have a balcony or outdoor space of your own where you could grow something lovely?

That's really cool!  Unfortunately no balcony or outdoor space here!  We've done some small herb pots inside before which worked wonderfully but that's about the extend of anything we can do before we move.
