Very new at crafting, and could use some help. I'm working on a project right now in which I have to cut pictures out of magazines/old books, in squares and rectangles of very specific sizes (31mm square; 14mmx10mm, etc.). Right now I'm making a photoshop document with squares of the correct size, printing it out on regular paper, using an exacto knife to cut the square out of the paper, then using that as a frame to put over the magazine picture, and using the exacto knife to cut the picture.
It's not working very well. At least half the time I cut either the piece of printed paper, or I cut the magazine page incorrectly. I'm certain there's a better way to do this, but I have no idea what it might be. Would really appreciate suggestions. Thanks!

My mother-in-law bought me a small clear quilting ruler. I use it for such an astounding array of projects, I don't know how I lived without. The one I have is 6 by 12 inches and the tools I use with it depend on the type of project. For fabric, I use my 18 by 24 inch Olfa cutting mat and Olfa 45mm rotary cutter, and for paper, I use my tiny mat and rotary cutter set that I bought at Walmart, or the tiny mat and Exacto blades.

I found a review for a Fiskars kit that might be of interest.

I know Fiskars sells stencils with various sizes similar to what Alexus suggested. I have one but it's not able to cut precise measurements like you need. it's a pre made size stencil.
