Hey everyone! I know we post an individual thread when we have some awesome nail art to show off, but I'd love to encourage everyone to post their other manicures here in this thread. I've been practicing with dotting tools and stamping plates lately and thought it would be fun to share.

This first one is a manicure I did on a friend one day at Sewing Day for my quilt guild. Then I polished like 3 more people! Smiley

This is a similar, but blurry one I did on my own nails. (the pic is blurry, the polish looked good! Cheesy )

Today's manicure, done while working (well, while waiting for students to log on)

I don't have any nieces, but my boyfriend has one, and I did her nails Saturday. She got pink polish with a glitter nail on each ring finger, an owl stamp on each index finger, and purple and blue polka dots on the other fingers!

These are my favourite nails I've done, ombre/gradient nails, I called them Starry Night Smiley

I used a dark blue for the base, with a light layer on the bottom, then another layer to make it darker, then black for the tips with a topcoat of clear with silver glitter. The picture isn't very good but they looked lovely. They were really easy to do, just a bit messy! Lots of tutes online or on youtube showing you how to do them Smiley

Sure, I'm a nail tech so I love this kind of thing, lol.

Shellac is a power polish. You can call it a hybrid and is closer to a nail polish than a gel. It has solvents that allow it to be removed with acetone or CND's nourishing remover (which is an acetone formula infused with oils that give a hydrating removal and doesn't dry out your nails as much as acetone would a lot quicker).
There are two types of gel. Hard gel and soft gel. Hard gel can only be removed by filing off and is usually reserved for enhancements like acrylic is used. Soft gel can be removed the same as shellac but takes longer. It has less solvents than Shellac and is closer to a hard gel. Depending on the company, it can take anywhere from 15 to 45 mins to soak off, sometimes even more.

Shellac is a name brand. It is a product by Creative Nail Design (CND) and is a professional only line, meaning only certified nail tech's can purchase it. Some people compare Gelish to Shellac but they are different. Gelish is more of a soft gel than Shellac is because it has less solvents than Shellac.

Make sense? The nail industry is complicated and consumers (and even nail tech's) are easily confused by certain companies marketing tactics as well as salon's that are lying to the public about their products just so they can make more money. You'll often find a little corner salon saying they do Shellac manicures when they end up pulling out some off brand rip off. Touchy subject with me, lol.

Thank you so much! Yes I've been seeing all these different gel polishes popping up.

I'm still having fun trying to master my stamping plates! Smiley
