Beatrice's Cowl & Socks

MissingWillow and I had a great time swapping in the most recent round of IYP! She has a special ewe named Beatrice and had some of her wool spun into yarn. Since she doesn't do any yarn crafts, she sent me the skeins to create some surprise knits for her and this is what I stitched up!

Firstly, a cowl! The pattern is called Greenwillow and is available on Ravelry. The lattice look is done by twisted stitch cabling. It was a new technique but I got the hang of it (after frogging twice ).



This requires a provisional cast-on so you can pick up the stitches later and do the i-cord bind-off on both edges. There is also a sideways braid on the interior border - it felt like it took 100 years to get through that round!



I also made a pair of socks using the same kind of twisted cabling technique. The pattern is called Diagonal Rib and you can download it for free on Knitting Daily, here.





While both of these projects challenged me, I had so much knitting them. It was really special to know the sheep that the yarn came from!

I can't tell you how special it is to own something from my special girl's wool, especially something I can wear!  The socks are beautiful and super warm, the cowl is just toasty perfection.  So expertly made!  You're a talented knitter LimeRiot and I'm a lucky gal!

This is so nice! I really like the cowl and will probably try my hand at that pattern some time :-)

Also really cool that your friend will now have some really nice accessories handknit by her friend from wool from her sheep. Does it get any better? I don't think so...

Wow! The cowl and socks are gorgeous. Like Phizzy said, I love the natural look with so much great texture. You worked your butt off and it shows. This, of course, rocks. I have been craving a table runner pattern that I love, and this would be perfect.

It would make a lovely runner! The pattern is written in the round but I'm sure you could figure out how out how to adjust it to a flat knit.
