This is my contribution to the challenge. I am a new member of Craftster and also found out about the challenge on Feeling Stitchy. My grandmother taught me needlework some 20 years ago and the challenge inspired me to pick up the needle once again and create an ode to my grandmother showing the line of descent from her to my children.

The photo was printed on cotton. I used DMC embroidery silk for the embroidery, as well as heirloom metal yarn lace and beads I inherited from my grandmother. My children contributed in their choice of colours (each flower represents one of my children although their names, unfortunately, as not as visible as I hoped - I will probably unpick this and use another colour) and gold yarn for the connecting links.

While I was away to a knitting club this evening my youngest daughter, who is three years old, made her own contribution by applying her "I like" stamp to the fabric. I am so grateful I took these pictures before I left! Hopefully I will be able to remove it if I carefully hand wash it... Otherwise there will be a decidedly modern touch to the piece ;-)

How neat that you had lace and beads from your grandmother that you could integrate into the piece.  I like the symbolism of the flowers representing your children, too.

I hope you can remove the added artwork by your little one, on the other hand maybe it makes it even more special.

Wonderful!

I agree with xperimentl, some day the "I like" stamp may bring back fond memories of both your grandmother and your now no-longer-little girl. Cheesy

Thank you all for the compliments!

I have indeed decided to embroider my daughter's enthusiastic stamps so they will be a permanent part of the piece. :-)

I did a little write up on Feeling Stitchy about the challenge. Check it out! I featured your piece as well as the other entries.
