So I found a plain black desk clock at the Goodwill this week. The cover over the battery compartment was missing, but hey, 2.00.
The front, back, top and bottom I used Old Brass color. The narrow sides are metallic gold, metallic copper, and the last wider side piece in metallic rust. Put a couple of layers of triple thick glaze over it. Took four lock washers and painted them gold, then glued them on the corners and glazed them. For the back, I cut out a circle of black plastic from a broken dvd case, painted and glazed it to match, and attached tiny strips of velcro to keep it in place, yet still have it removable for battery access. Not an ideal fix, but it'll do.
