This piece was for a show in NY.  I had to depict one of the five senses using a part of the body.  I decided to depict sight and the visual legacy we artists leave to future generations.

The piece is pretty small, but I was pleased with how it turned out.  The eye is painted in gouache and the bees are marker and ink on bristol board.

From the side to show the framing and how the bees are raised:

And this is how small the bees are:

Provocative and mildly disturbing...beauti fully executed...love the dimensional bees...so tiny and yet so detailed!  I am intrigued by the theme of the show and curious as to what other senses you thought about doing, if any...Was it a juried show? I would hope your piece got some positive recognition...it is very different!

Just love your work... Cheesy

It was an invitational show and there was only one award......I knew I didn't have a chance at the award as I was up against some of the top illustrators in the country!!  I was just thrilled to be invited.  I pretty much knew right away what I wanted to do so there wasn't much thought involved.  There are a few issues with the painting as far as structure of the eye, but it reads well enough (I have enough trouble with gouache.....I didn't want to screw it up since I had a REALLY limited time period to complete it).

It was auctioned off to support art acquisition for the museum.  It wasn't the highest grossing piece, but it did well.....very well.

I just did a piece a few weeks ago for another fundraiser.  I have it right now to put a coat of varnish on it and as soon as it's dry enough to scan I'll post it.  It's already been purchased (there was a bit of a bidding war).

GAH! Your brush strokes are sweet like sugar. Very well done. I LOVE the 3D bees. You've captured the varying textures with precision and style. LOVE it. Everything you do makes me want to throw my paint brushes at something. lol Keep it up!! Wink
