This was a paparazzi picture of Ethel Kennedy leaving Robert's gravesite that I photocopied onto plain white paper. I painted the white portions gold (minus the cross) to give it an antiqued look.

The block is comprised of vintage (1930's) fabric remnants that I pinned onto a square of batting, then I just free-style stitched and embellished as I saw fit. The two military buttons were my grandfather's during WWII, and I collected the shells on Catalina Island.

I love treasure hunting to find just the right pieces for my blocks. Every piece is a journey!

wow that's really beautiful, love the techniques.  I really like your composition, and how you did a variety of not-lined-up stitches all over.  Well done!

Haunting and sentimental; even the cheerful prints and buttons seem kind of sad on this.  Really nice.

Your stitching makes a nice "frame" for a memorable photo...love the vintage feel as well...perfect for the time period of the photo.
