Background story:  The company my husband works for opened an office in a neighbouring town 2 1/2 years ago and this January they decided that the town was not large enough to support the office.  So the decision was made to close up the end of February and move my hubby and his secretary back to the main office in our town.  At supper I asked him if they had put up the closed sign today but he said no because he hadn't made it yet.  I offered to make one - my intention was to make a nice sign on the computer.  My 21 yo son piped up and said - you could quilt Dad a closed sign!  My gears started turning immediately and I thought 'you know what, I could!'

As soon as supper was over I headed to my craft room to design the squares and cut the material.  Thankfully both of them were going out for the evening.  While they were still home I just cut and stacked the material so if they walked in they wouldn't know what I was up to.  As soon as they left, I hit the sewing machine and in not too long of a time I was done.

No backing on it as I knew I didn't have enough time.  As it was, I only had it hung for 5 minutes before they both arrived home.  They got quite the laugh!!

It's strange - all the letters are the same size but the D looks smaller.

I made my own pattern for each letter. Had to tweak a few as I was sewing them but it was a fun challenge.
