Happy Friday!

Thanks for all the nice things folks have said about the wee hats! Smiley

Travelgirl & Jennie: Your stitch markers are fabulous! I really need to get some nice markers for my knitting, I just have the little rubbery open ones that fall out all the time.  Not beautiful ones like these!

Abbee: The zelda dolls and cross-stitch came out great!

Good luck to all who are working on OWLs and NEWTs this weekend. I should brew up a draught of Felix Felicis in order to get mine back on track... Not being a potions master I think I'll settle for some good strong tea and a kick in the pants. Wink

Enjoy the evening!

Ant Bee, I forgot to mention how much I adore your wee hats! Congrats on getting so many knitted!

~*NEWT PROPOSAL*~
NEWT Subject: Arithmancy
House: Ravenclaw
Project Name: Chair Revamp X 2
Brief Description: For this exam I will be using my magic and mathematical skills to recover two unsightly chairs. These chairs have seen better days and are in need of some TLC. The foam cushions will have to be replaced and I'll be sewing slipcovers with piping to (hopefully) transfigure them into something aesthetically pleasing. Oh, and I'm steam cleaning them too.
"Don't look at me, I'm hideous!"

Nice, new fabric!

Pottermouth, that elephant is so cute and I really like the fabric you chose for your couple of chairs. It's going to be retro-amazing!

Yesterday, with the help of Ex_Gratia, and 2 of my students, we got all the fashion fabric cut for the 9 corsets, bindings picked & cut, busks & straight steel bones assigned by size, and about half of the spring steel bones cut.  (We'll do the rest throughout the day.)  Now I've just got to pack up my blender and some tropical fruit for smoothies and we'll be ready to start class at 9:00.  Cheesy  Think good thoughts for me ladies!  I've taught plenty of classes before, but always with notes and a clear lesson plan.  Today, we're just diving into teaching 7 undergrads everything I know about corsetry!  (P.S.  All this will become relevant when I post my History of Magic project... Wink)

OWL Subject & Option (if available): Transfiguration, Option 1
House: Ravenclaw
Project Name: Wind Chime Afghan
Brief Description: My vanishing and conjuring spells were a success!!  Yesterday evening I finished up my OWL, and first large scale crochet project.  This was a wonderful beginning pattern it worked up quickly (though I had to take many breaks whenever my elbow and shoulder would start screaming at me) and gave me the confidence to attempt more crochet in the future.

I finally have some classes to turn in after a long bout of complete lack of motivation.

Class/Challenge/House Pride: Alchemy
House: Ravenclaw
Project Name: Banana Bread
Brief Description: This project demonstrates both the physical and chemical changes that alchemy uses.  First I smashed the bananas causing them to physically change both their shape and texture.  Then once they were combined with other ingredients they were baked causing a chemical change, making a lovely moist, cakey bread.  Yumm.

Class/Challenge/House Pride: Apparition
House: Ravenclaw
Project Name: CAPN CRUNCH CUPCAKES WITH PEANUT BUTTER MARSHMALLOW FROSTING
Brief Description: I think cupcakes are the perfect representation on two things that work together when placed side by side.  First you have cake which, while delicious by itself, can often leave you waning more; and second you have frosting, now I'm not saying anything is wrong with eating frosting by itself, but it can get overly sweet at times.  But when you combine these two get some thing perfectly balanced.  I used this recipe from Confessions of a Cookbook Queen because I'm a peanut butter fanatic and because I had Cap'n Crunch in the pantry.  And even though it sounds a little odd at first it is really very yummy.

Class/Challenge/House Pride: Potions
House: Ravenclaw
Project Name: Sherlock Inspired Hat
Brief Description: When I breathe in the Amortentia one of the things I smell is books, old books.  One of my favorites is Sherlock Holmes.  I first discovered it by watching re-runs of the PBS Mystery series starting Jeremy Brett as a child.  I then read the stories and have now completely fallen in love with BBC's Sherlock. I used the pattern 221b to create this hat which is inspired by the wallpaper in Sherlock and John's flat in the BBC series.  I wear it with the ribbing flipped up because apparently I have a short head.  Tongue

Class/Challenge/House Pride: April Detention
House: Ravenclaw
Project Name: Car Trash Bag
Brief Description: I've been meaning to make a car trash bag for myself for a while now and I finally did.  I used a pattern from the book One Yard Wonders and stitched it up in about an hour.  I've had this Alice in Wonderland fabric in my stash for a while and wasn't completely sure what to use it for and this seemed prefect.  It hangs off of the passenger seat and is secured by a parachute clip/buckle.  Yay for a clean car!!

Challenge: Dirt
House Ravenclaw
Project Name: Spring Garden

Today was the first day I've had to do any maintenance on my garden. I have 3 raised beds, and last year planted herbs.
I went to the local nursery today and bought some started plants to fill in my other beds. I got onions, zucchini, garlic, shallots, spinach and even some more thyme.

I weeded the beds and planted my new plants. Here are pictures of everything.
