Love it that this thread is going so quickly again. I'm amazed how quick some people are to creft to the new prompts! I've already got ideas for alchemy, charms and potions myself Smiley Several ideas for potions actually! Nothing like a new set of prompts to inspire Smiley

S.P.E.W. Sunday

How do you make the world a better place?

This is the first S.P.E.W. Sunday of the new semester.  The Society for the Promotion of Everyone's Welfare invites you to make a difference by spreading warmth and positivity around the world with your crafty thoughts and actions.   By taking a few minutes to think outside of your day-to-day routines and seek chances to make someone's day a little brighter, easier and full of love you are making the whole world a better place.

As you find inspiration in the class and challenge prompts this term I ask that you consider where your crafty magic (and stash busting!) might unexpectedly make someone else's day.  Making squares for blankets, sending care packages to troops in combat, putting together craft packets for children in hospitals- all of these things are ways for you to do what you love while bringing some light into another person's world.  We do have the magic to make the world a better place.

Outside of Hogwarts I have been working to create a brand called The Positivibee which is all about the fact that even if you and I can't write a ginormous check to eradicate some issue in the world we can definitely make a difference in some smaller way- and if everyone was making a difference in her daily travels then all of our positivity would eventually overlap and voila! the world is that much brighter for our efforts. Through my work as S.P.E.W. president I hope to share what I am learning as I establish the brand and I know that seeing what the HPCers can do will teach me ways to spread the idea that everyone can be a force of good in the universe.

So, As you begin plotting out the projects you will create this semester I hope you might consider ways in which you could incorporate a charitable aspect to your crafts. For inspiration be sure to visit the S.P.E.W. board established by Pinkleo where you will find a list of charities and suggested items as well as projects made by S.P.E.W members over the last few terms. (http://tinyurl.com/apevjax ) Stash busting AND making the world a nicer, kinder and more loving place to be? What could be more magical than that?

Have a great week, everybody, and Happy Crafting!

Class: Charms
House: Gryffindor
Project Name: All Things English Charm Bracelet

Project Page Link: http://www.craftster.org/forum/index.php?topic=421093.0
Brief Description: This bracelet was a special request, from a lovely lady who teaches high school English, adores London, Harry Potter, Sherlock, Doctor Who, and happens to be going to England next month.  Since London is known for being rather rainy, and it's hard to take an umbrella on a plane, I have placed a simple weather-modifying charm on the bracelet, Finis Pluvia, to keep my friend dry while she does her sight-seeing.  The charm works only in a small area around the charmed object, so while she will stay dry, the Muggles around her should not notice anything unusual. Cheesy

The bracelet also includes 21 pewter, enamel & Tibetan silver charms, and a mix of glass, Czech glass, crystal, stone and freshwater pearl beads in shades of black, navy, slate blue, smokey grey and clear.  The charms include: inkwell & quill, fob watch, Impossible Astronaut, Hogwarts Letter, Underground sign, rose, gas mask, red Converse sneaker, angel wing, Sorting Hat, Police Box, scarf, Big Ben, double decker bus, bow tie, phone booth, open book, owl, Union Jack, and a lightning bolt.

Oooh, I love the one in front pinks.  Yay for SPEW Sundays!  Thanks for taking on this important position Ant Bee.

And now that I've posted our new Bertie Bott's Bean Challenge, posted a project, packed up & mailed out my Etsy orders, returned books to the library, and picked up healthy groceries for the week, I'm going to give myself the rest of teh day off.  Time to hang out on my sofa and crochet all afternoon.  Cheesy  Let's see if I can make up for not getting a chance to work on my NEWT last week!
