Still having fun and enjoying everyone's projects! I'll announce TWO GotMs by the end of the week!

OWL!

Class: Alchemy, option 2- the 4 elements.
House: Gryffindor
I've studied the 4 elements by making elementals. Here's what my hours of magical crafting did:

I'm not very happy with the outcome. I will try the pattern I created with felt, and really add to them.

Class: Herbology
House: Gryffindor
Project name: Victoria's new hair
Desc.: I'm posting it under this class but I'll explain to some why; making a Waldorf doll takes A LOT of care. Each step is important in making the doll, from making little wool balls for the feets to carefully shape the head with strings. Doing the hair is no different. I crochet a cap that I sew unto the head, to which I add strings of yarn one by one in a loop so it never falls down. It takes more then 2 hours to do it, and takes a full skein of yarn.
My daughter's doll needed new hair for a while now. The cap and hair had felted from the many handwashes and my daughter wanted longer hair for her doll.

Sorry I've been AWOL, right after my daughter's birthday my parents came down so I've been busy with them!  I'm so so sorry I don't have the time to comment on everyone's great projects, but I'm about to go back to work and munchkin is going into daycare, so for awhile all my posts are going to be drive-by's.  Sad  Everything is great though!

I did want to jump in quick though and say I think the waldorf doll is great MamanTatoo, did you make the whole doll?  I'm not really sure about the full waldorf philosphy but I do love some of their toys and especially the dolls.  I don't think I'm talented enough to make one though!

Yes I did make the whole doll. It's the first one I ever made, 2 years ago. I'm happy to enlight you about the waldorf pedagogy, but I won't be thurought, so if it really intesterests you, a little googling would do the job better than me!
Basicaly it's a pedagogie that puts imagination first, and with the most natural material possible. Plastic toys and TV are forbiden, totally. The children learns throught play, songs, stories and more play. They wait for the kids to loose their first teeth to move them to the first grade in which he'll start learning letters. They believe that they need to be exposed to vocabulary by hearing it before trying to write it, just like learning to talk. They follow a weekly rhtythm, such as monday is baking day, thursday is craft day etc. All the transition to an activity to another is made with a song.

We don't personally do Waldorf here. I find is very rigid and I'm more of a take-this and borrow-that when it comes to child up-bringing Smiley But I love their esthetics, all their natural toys are just gorgeous. I've been making and trying to sell waldorf dolls for a year now but I'm on maternity leave, so to say.
Thanks for the nice comments! Victoria is still one of my favorite I ever made and I might have made 15 dolls so far.
It's not that hard to do, you just need to have the right material. There's lot of etsy sellers that sells ready made kits with the right amount of (hard to find) carded wool and pre-cut organic coton. If you ever try your hand at it and have some question, I'd be happy to help! Smiley

Boy, does this Head of House need a Rememberall! I realized as I was going through the posts for March that February was part of the Winter Semester, and I actually DID post GotM for Feb!. I think I left my brain back in winter!

Anyway, after careful examination of all the awesome projects so far this semester, and in an attempt to spread the Gryffindor love around, I decided to award the March Gryffindor of the Month Badge to chughes225!!!

Congratulations!!!

chughes' painted HP shoes and Teesha Moore Hogwarts Crest are true inspiration for all Gryffindors. Keep up the great work!

PS - chughes, I used your pic of the Gryffindor crest you made for a previous HPC to make your badge, hope you don't mind!
