It's pi-day today people, so it's an excellent day to complete your muggle studies projects and bake a tasty pie in honour of this nerdy holiday.

Muggles, like wizards, have realised that pi is a very powerfull number, and several songs about the numeral have been composed.
This is on http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=VqpWETqoD5Q , but this one: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=AtgfsRH3H3U would be a great inspiration for a project on this day as well. Smiley

Have a lovely pi-day, and enjoy your pie Smiley

Mmm roast chicken!  We like making it at home, except it actually works out CHEAPER to buy the pre-cooked whole chicken at the store than to buy a raw whole chicken (even without the spices).  Still though, if we find one on sale I'm definitely making this!

I have a recipe to submit myself, for the bacon challenge.

Challenge: BEAN - Bacon
House: Gryffindor
Name: Gluten-free double bacon cheddar biscuits

280 g (2 cups) GF flour
1 tsp xantham gum (if your blend doesn't have it already)
1 tbsp baking powder
1/4 tsp baking soda
112 g (8 tbsp) chopped, chilled butter
1 cup milk
1.5 tsp vinegar
1 cup shredded old cheddar cheese
6 strips of bacon, chopped

Preheat oven to 400F, line a baking sheet with parchment paper and set aside.

Mix dry ingredients, then cut in butter with two knives, a pastry cutter (which I did), or "rub" it into the flour.  It doesn't need to be ultra fine crumbs like a pie pastry, but you want it cut in fairly well.

Dump in the chopped bacon and the cheese and add the vinegar to the milk.  Then pour it over, stirring it in until well mixed.  Put it in mounds onto your cookie sheet and bake 12-15 minutes, or until they are golden and the rough edges are just browning.

::Bleary eyed she wanders through the Great Hall to her seat and absentmidedly eats some roast chicken and bacon cheddar biscuits. Her friends notice that her fingers are moving as if they are still knitting. She sighs.::

Knitting assignments sure take forever the muggle way...

Oh, I love the recipes Audania and tiamatfire! I see an "HP Craftalong Recipe Book" somewhere in the future....

Maman, I am loving your OWL. I can't wait to see them!

jenleahlynn, your art is wonderful!

Freakie, maybe we have it all wrong about Snape. I tend to think of him as a prude but maybe he is a closeted nudist? Nekkid or not, I'm sure he is fantastic and I'm looking forward on seeing him.

Ant Bee, right there with ya. Knitting for me seems to be taking forever lately. What are you working on?

NEWT UPDATE:

Oh, really, really, incredibly close to finishing my quilt. All I have left is the binding! Even though I cut bias strips for the binding I think I may cheat and go buy pre-made. Have I really been defeated by a blanket? Yep. Maybe all the planets will be aligned for me to complete this monstrosity and have pics up tomorrow.

Class/Challenge/House Pride: Arithmancy
House: Hufflepuff
Project Name: Pi Pies
Project Page Link (if available):
Brief Description: What better way to bring numbers into a project that with the number pi!  Today was 3/14 and yes, it is a holiday at my house so I made some pies.  For these pies I added together pie crusts, chocolate pudding, and whipped cream.  Was a delicious end to the day!

Class/Challenge/House Pride: Charms
House: Hufflepuff
Project Name: Charmed Hairbows
Project Page Link (if available):
Brief Description: Made up some hairbows, but thought it needed an extra kick, so I put a charm on them.  Whoever gets to wear these specific bows will be guarded from the weather.  How many times have you made your hair up just to go outside and get wind blown, or rained out?  All that time beautifying your hair, wasted.  Well not with these.  These have magic that the weather won't get to your hair, keeping your amazing style intact.  Terrific!
