So I've just finished a bunch of cake decorating classes and I had a cake order and I wanted to share it with you!

It's a tire cake, the birthday guy's name is Greg so I went with "Gregyear" instead of "Goodyear" and his birthdate instead of the typical tire numbers. It's a 'zebra cake' (chocolate and vanilla layered up so it looks like zebra when stacked) covered in strawberry buttercream, oreo flavoured fondant and then decorated to look like a tire.

They were very happy with it, so I would say my first order was a success!

C&C Welcome,
Tea

Great job, it looks great and sounds delicious.

How do you make Oreo fondant?

Wink You don't.... you buy it from the local pro-cake supply store.

It's actually by a company called Fond-x and they make excellent tasting fondant that's not overly sweet or saccharine tasting. And their black fondant has a signature "oreo" taste.

On another note: I have made marshmallow fondant before... HOWEVER it's very very stretchy, tears easily and shows marks like nobody's business. It just doesn't cover as nicely as a pro-made fondant.

Interesting, I had very similar experience with marshmallow fondant.  I may need to try the commercial stuff if I try it again.

There's a store in Pickering that I go to, but they have a website and you can order online. They have great products and fair prices if you want to check them out. It's www.flourconfection s.com
