Purse Craftalong-2013

I had to do some homework for my study, after that I sewed some sequins onto a t-shirt that needed some BLING. I sewed it in the shape of a heart and the blue matches well with my new wrap bracelet I got in the IYP swap from CraftyMamaBee!

I actually wanted to work on my bag, but I really did ran out of fusible interfacing  Now I will have to wait until Thursday to buy some new, yikes!

I have to sew six zippered pouches for my little friend Haven. I am going to sew all six at once instead of each pounch individually. Would anyone be interested in seeing how.

When I first learned to sew, sewing multiple items in a time efficeint manner was hard to figure out. Now that I have the knack for it mabe someone would like to see how I do it?

 I wouldn't mind seeing some zippered pouches. I used to make them all the time and it's neat to see all the different ways people make them!

 So, In order to make the Sunburst Sling I am going to have to coordinate a LOT of fabric, so in the meantime I decided to start a more simple purse for my sister of her birthday in April. Ever since I did the "make a purse and fill it" swap I love the idea for gift giving! My sister is currently on a big Edgar Allen Poe kick. I got her a vinyl Poe figure and some other random things. I plan to put what I can in the purse. I ordered some of the Nevermore fabric so I am using that.
 Here is the pattern I will be using:

 And here is a shot of the pieces I cut for the front and back of the bag. My sister current favorite things are Poe, ravens, and bats so I am trying to focus in on that part of the fabric.

 Front, I wanted to get the "Nevermore" on the purse.

 Back.

 And I want to patch this raven on the inside pocket.
 I am not sure what maple leaves or spells have to do with Poe. I am admittedly not a huge fan. I have a black cat and that story still makes me mad! LOL!
 I plan to cut out the gusset (a black and dark grey bubbly fabric) and put on the interfacing tonight/tomorrow. I will keep you posted!

Wendiek: thanks for the tip. Does it stick after that or does it get loose when you wash it again?

Bubbling interfacing not good. I lower my iron temp when applying interfacing and I use a china silk hankerchief for a press cloth. I never press interfacing without a press cloth. Why china silk? You can press with it at a high temp and it doesn't melt the silk, and if you get adhesive on the silk it peels off or you can wash it, the silk is also pretty trasparent so you can see what your doing. You also do not need to prewash interfacing because it really doesn't shrink. I also press up and down as opposed to the sliding motion of ironing.

Loe the Poe fabric--you fussy cut it to show off the print beautifully!

Diesels_Mom--I also love to make pouches and wallets "assembly" style--would love to see your method!

No kidding--I use freaking fabric glue under a lot of my iron on interfacing...I now only use a knit woven interfacing for my bags...If it need a thicker interfacing, I double it up...I think it is called a tricot knit interfacing...I get it for about $2 a yard but it is about 60 inches wide...I will post a pic of it when I finally decide on a fabric!

I' m going to do this



using this  velvet-like  burnt orange upholstery fabric (it' s adorable in person) and dark green lining:





I will make it using a pattern I drafted myself. maybe I will decorate it with lace...sure I will put a rose or a bow:)

I will also make a black denim big handbag. I have already cut it but I can' t show you because I put the it into hot water.

What a cute design!  It will look so sweet in those colors!

How many purses do you make in a year?  You seem to enjoy making them!

Glamis: sometimes it does get loosema bit when I washed it, but I just iron it on again. But in my experience when it is done well, it doesn't get loose so easily.
I don't use a press cloth, as long as the fabric is okay with a hot iron 

AIMR, what a good idea to use fabric glue under the fusible interfacing, wil try that next time. Which is this week when I bought new interfacing for my bag!

Gozer: your design makes the fabric come out very nicely! BTW your craftster username means 'dude' in Dutch haha
