thimble necklace

when my grandma died back in 1992 (wow.  it'll be 21 years in November), I was given her sewing box because I was showing an interest in sewing and other crafts.  needless to say, I suck at sewing.  lol.  but I still use it to hold my pins, needles, zippers, scissors, etc. for those rare occasions when I do sew.  the box included a LOT of vintage thread on wooden spools and even a thimble.  I had seen a LOT of thimble necklaces online and I was really inspired to make one.  so I found the thimble, drilled a little hole in it, and added some dangles.



I love it!  I used a mix of quartz (both the point and die-shaped beads), pearls, clear seed beads, and silver lined bugle beads to give it a kind of vintage feel.  I love it, I love it, I love it!!!

glad I could inspire you too.    and yay!  I've been pinned!    yeah, Thanksgiving is kinda hard since even though the actual date for Thanksgiving changes, the holiday doesn't, and that's the exact holiday she passed away on.  but now I can wear this necklace and have her close to my heart all the time.    I also plan on making a wooden spool necklace from one of her old spools of thread.

I only wish that I could have got a hold of some of my dad's mother's jewelry (this is my mom's mom's sewing stuff), even if it was just costume jewelry.  I don't care about the expensive stuff.  I'd just love to have something like that of hers.  she is still with us, but she's not actually with us.  she has dementia.  she may not have long.  and I would love to have something to remember her by, especially if it was German.  she was there during World War II.  maybe I can talk to my aunt.  my uncle is giving me one of my grandpa's steins, so maybe I can get some costume jewelry.
