For the Steampunk for the home swap, I tried my hand at carving (or is this more engraving?) a candle. It was harder than I had expected it to be at first, freehanding isn't particularly easy. I discovered that it works best if you tape a piece of paper to the candle and use a ballpoint pen to draw on your design so you've got the basics there, and then you're a lot less likely to slip. I'm quite pleased with the result, but it's so hard to get a good picture!

I think it's lovely!  What did you use to carve it?

The needle I usually use to weave in my ends in crochet and knitting.  Grin A sewing needle is too fine to make a good line, I tried the point of my 3mm crochet hook and that works (it's easier to hold) but I found that too wide.

This is a cool idea! I've never thought of doing anything like this. I bet the carving pops as the candle melts closer towards it too.
