Muslin is cotton, cotton is a plant fibre so it will not react the same as wool or other animal fibres. If anything I think it would simply stain the fabric and mostly come out in the wash.

You can use Riit (Riit is a union dye, it'll work on plant and animal based fiber) or some of the clever tie dye kits instead. Smiley
