This is a little quilt that I made for Project Quilting this week.  Our task was to look at the work of Annie Young (http://www.annieyoungarts.blogspot.com), a challenged artist, and devise a quilt.  You need to go to her webpage and check it out for yourself.  I wanted to honor her ability to create amazing art.   I've also been looking for an opportunity to effectively use the chenille technique in a quilt.  Since any quilt that references Annie's work has to be tactile, this seemed to be the perfect opportunity to try it out.

The title comes from the emergence of light and beauty out of the darkness.   I wanted the colors to change across the piece as well as emerge from the black.  A couple of her pieces are very linear.  The lines in this reference that.

The piece is 11 x 12 inches.  It is made entirely of quilter's cotton including lots of scraps.  The quilting was done by machine and the binding was hand stitched.

There are a couple more pictures on my blog if you are interested.  http://twasbrilligand.blogspot.com/2013/02/project-quilting-43-emergence.html

Wow. This is beautiful. I'll have to check out Annie Young's site some more when I have time. I have been wondering about using the chenille technique in a quilt as well. Now, I have some inspiration to work with. Smiley
