Every ear I join a group of women that contribute to a beautiful community quilt. Someone conceives of the theme and we each get swatches of fabric and a theme. The quilt squares or art pieces are combined into a work of art that is given away in a fund raising drawing at a festival.  It is more fabric art than quilting and every year I am amazed by the creative offerings.

***I don't have a pic of the finished quilt yet, but it was stunning and when all the embellishments were added (women can stop by and decorate the quilt with embroidery, sew on bling, what ever they wish...there was lots of bling) it sparkled in the sun and under the stage lights as it was displayed for the final raffle drawing.

!!! My stars plus two others that I added (young stars, simpler and younger faces) were the corners!
I was so honored.

I hope to have a pic soon, several friends took pictures and I want one!

Thanks for looking.

The theme this year was stars. I received silver satin. Stars are to be no bigger than 6 in any direction, only silver, gold, white and iridescent colors are to be used (some pastels are allowed).  Any and all embellishments allowed.

Meet Ella and Thelma, my guardian grandmother spirits.  They are soon to be shipped off to join other shining stars. They will be cut out and attached to a midnight blue backdrop. I stuffed the dancing star arms, thread sculpted doll heads and painted, some of the lace is painted as well to blend the colors. I am very pleased with the results.

You will have to wait until August! The stars are due in a week or so, and we don't see it until much later. Then at the festival, women embellish and embroider the quilt. The edges are finally bound and it is presented at the final concert where it is given away in a lottery. I always want to win and then I realize that I have no where to hang such a masterpiece.

I will post pictures in August.

OMG. Wonderful. How did you create the faces. You should do a series. I want one to watch over me. Can't wait for the final pics.

Oof! Ive been busy with other projects and snow!

I created the faces like you would create a thread sculpted doll head. Do a quick search and there are lots of patterns out there. I just made the back of the head a flat oval. The star is padded. As I was making it all up as I went, they were not the easiest thing I had ever made  Cheesy

Hmm a series. You know I tend to do one-off's. Must be my ADD in play. No attention span. I do think I may do some of these for Christmas ornaments with warmer colors. I was limited to silver satin and pastels, which was fun to work with.

I too cannot wait for the final. The quilts are always amazing with all the different interpretations of the theme, which was August Under the Stars.
