Newly finished quilled art work

I was commissioned by an old friend to do two pictures for him and his wife.  They have a small piece from me and are now starting to collect.  They want all three pieces to be nature in theme and be bright and bold.  The first work they bought from me was a 5 x 7" retro flower picture that I often do variations of because they are so popular.  This go round they requested a 6 x 8" and an 8 x 10".  The 6 x 8 was left entirely up to me.  The following pictures are of what I came up with.  I just finished last night.  I am pretty happy with the finished effect.  I used all of the colors that I used in their previous picture plus many additional. I plan on incorporating this element in the third as well.  The couple plan on hanging their collection as a grouping - and while they will all be different in subject and perhaps even stylistically, there will at least be a little similarity amongst them all.  I have sent off photos to him but have year to hear back as to whether or not he likes the work.  I hope it is a yes... then I can get started on the next one

Thank you so much. It does take a lot of patience.  I listen to audiobooks while I work and get two things done at once   A 6 x 8 takes between 15 - 20 hours depending on the detail.  I have a few larger pictures that have taken more than 120 hours to complete.  I am fortunate because quilling is my full time job, so that is how I find the time.

These are brilliant!  And how inspiring (and courageous) that you have managed to make your talent your full time job!  I think that is one true measure of success - to be able to do what you love for a living.

Me too.  I started it last night.  I love the whole process because my initial drawings/paintings are so bad and then they eventually turn into my imagination   It's fun.

Thank you!  I use white art boards but paint them prior to quilling over them.

I felt the same way when I was introduced to quilling 4 years ago   It was not my style (at least the kits and such) so I had to bend it to my tastes.  It is a pretty simple skill to learn and very rewarding - just time consuming.  I am sure you will make wonderful things and I cannot wait for you to share!

Thank you so much for your kind words.  I have absolutely experienced my patience growing as I have grown within the craft.  I have noticed the difference between my first few mosaic work and what I am creating now... I used to want to rush through and now I want the experience to linger a bit because I find it almost holy.  Strange I know.  It is the absolute truth however that I enjoy the process of making a thousand times fold of the finished work.
