What does a fairy lovin' mess maker create for a shoebox makeover?

A Borrower's Box!

The box was made completely with stash, junk, and found or free objects.
(P.S. THANK YOU to all of my fabulous crafty patrons who send me stuff xoxo)

Here's a few of the interior details...

A bed made from an old sardine tin with a mossy pillow. The nightstand is a checker piece with bead feet.

The ladder is made from two old paintbrushes and matchsticks.
Notice the 'nerf' dart to the left? Yeah, there's about a zillion of them hiding all over my house.

A spool chair and a table made from a button and matchsticks.
(No wonder my bird feeder is empty. It's borrowers!)

The bottom floor is filled with necessary borrowing supplies like twine, pins, thumbtacks, birthday candles and, of course, super glue.

Here's an 'in progress' shot of that same area where you can see how it was built. The upper floors are made from an old game board that has been sliced up. The floor rests on clothespegs that have been taken apart. The springy part of the pegs were then bent and are now hooks for hanging things. And, you can also see the bottom floor has a cozy rug made from a burlap rice bag.

The only inkling that there's anything 'different' about this box from the outside is this tiny window on the back of the box

Other than that it's just an ordinary shoe box.

Sweet!

I really need to reread those books.  Loved them as a child.

This is wonderful!  I loved the Borrower books when I was a child and made homes for them in my closet similar to this (but not nearly as polished).   Cheesy  You brought back memories!

Great shoe box!  I love that the outside is completely inconspicuous, but the inside is really done up, cozy and wonderful for a borrower.

Wow. The Borrowers books were my number one favourites when I was a child, and this conjures it up so well, I'm remembering bits from the books as I'm examining the pics Cheesy  I, too, want to read the series again now that I've seen this!

I love this, you did an amazing job.  Definitely bookmarking this and hitting the this rocks button.  I've always been obsessed with The Borrowers and the idea that there may be tiny humans/creatures who 'borrow' items and use them in their own ways.

All the bits and pieces are so fun to explore. Trying to figure out what each thing was before incorporatedinto the shoebox. Smiley

I love this.  You did such a fantastic job.  I want to show my daughter because it is amazing, but I am not going to because she will want me to make one and it looks like too much work Wink

One thing I love about your work is that you can arrange things so nicely! It would take me hours to make those "haphazard" groupings of borrowed items look so good together. The other thing I love is your creative use of materials. The clothespin wire hooks are genius!

Great job. I love your Borrower's Box.

Thanks bunches folks! It was great fun to make.

A little P.S. As some of you may know, I take part in something called 'Art Abandonment' and since this box would be a nightmare to ship I decided to leave it at my local library and in the hope it finds a nice new home Smiley
